2011 KTM 250 SX-F Comparison
The 2011 KTM dirt bike line, including the 250 SX-F has been recalled to fix a possible handlebar safety hazard.
KTM North America has announced a recall for more than 6000 off-road motorcycles. The Austrian firm has issued the voluntary recall for its 2011 KTM and Husaberg dirt bikes owing to a possible handlebar defect.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recall statement lists the hazard as: “The motorcycle handlebar clamp can develop cracks during normal use causing the handlebars to move from their set position. This can result in the rider losing control of the vehicle, posing a fall or crash hazard.”

The announcement confirms one incident related to the issue, where a rider was hospitalized following a crash “after the handlebar clamps cracked and failed to secure the handlebars.”

Affected units were sold from April 2010 through May 2011. The models include KTM’s SX, XC and XC-W dirt bikes ranging in displacement from 150 to 530cc. Three Husaberg models are included in the recall, the 390 FE and 450 FE and 450 FX.

A free repair for the hazard will be provided at KTM/Husaberg dealers. Consumers wanting more information can contact their local dealers, or reach KTM North America at 888-985-6090.

The CPSC can be reached regarding this recall at www.saferproducts.gov or 800-638-2772.

The recall was for 2011 models only. It is for the handlebar clamp, which may have been sourced from a new supplier this year or somehow gotten a bad batch.

Does this problem affect the 2010 and earlier models as they are the same bikes as the 2011?
