The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall notice for certain 2012-2013 model year KTM 350 EXC-F and 500 EXC bikes due to a possible problem with the fuel system. There are 1,181 potential units affected on models produced from September 2011 through August 2012.
According to the NHTSA notice, “due to the supplier’s inconsistencies, the preformed fuel hoses may develop cracks or holes at either end. During use, the fuel hoses, located between the fuel tank and the throttle body fuel rail, may allow fuel to leak.”
The risk is that fuel may leak onto the rear tire while the motorcycle is in motion, increasing the likelihood of a crash. There is also the possibility that a fire could occur if fuel reaches an ignition source.
will notify owners and will replace defective fuel hoses free of charge. Customers can contact KTM Customer Relations at 1-888-985-6090, can call the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov
for more information. The NHTSA campaign ID number for the KTM recall is 12V531000.
