The info is scarce, but we can see that this new 350 is going to change things. Note the fuel injection, e-start and rear shock linkage.
KTM has officially announced the arrival of its new 2010 KTM 350 SX-F, a ground-breaking motocross dirt bike which will blend the performance boundaries between the established 250 and 450 divisions. The bike isn’t currently in production, but you can bet that they will be moving it through the assembly line as quickly as possible in order to get it homologated for racing use in America. This is the bike that Mike Alessi was rumored to be racing and developing in Europe during the Supercross season and then bringing to the States for competition in the outdoor Motocross series. As the rules stand, this machine would be legal to ride in the 450 class.

Stefan Everts has been instrumental in the development process, and consequently the only photos that have been released show the bike in full Everts racing garb, so it’s tough to decipher what will be standard on the bike. However, we can see that the new 350 SX-F looks to be fuel-injected and does not have a kickstarter – which obviously means it’s electric start like the KTM 450 SX-F. Other major news includes the suspension. White Power components are the norm, but out back is a set of linkage which is a major deviation from the norm that KTM has struggled so hard to prove over the years.

KTM calls it a “very mature prototype,” but the Austrian manufacturer has not yet set a date for production of this new motorcycle. Rest assured, once it starts cranking out the serial numbers, these babies will be flying off showroom floors as quickly as they arrive. Times are hard for OEMs, but this news has to up the ante for the rest of the big Japanese companies. Yamaha is traditionally the one to bust out a completely new model, but KTM has beaten them to the punch with a bike that has been begged for by consumers since the 450F and 250F machines were first introduced. It seems like this new model, as KTM describes it, may indeed forge a new path in the motocross world.

Whether we're talking MX,SX,GNCC or Enduro the Austrian bikes rule the roost in quality, performance, durability and all of the top notch parts they put on their dirt bikes. And as far as aluminum frames on a European bike!??Just the thought of that makes me feel nauseated...!
I agree with CR500 Rider when he said WHY jump on the aluminum box frame bandwagon? Most of us old school "over forty"riders like myself already know why the Japanese manufacturers are using those UGLY AS HOMEMADE SIN BOXY ALUMINUM CAN Frames and in case some of you don't know why it's because there has been a shortage of high quality steel in the Asian countries and the aluminum frames also save the Japanese manufacturers lots of money but they like you to think that they make the bikes handle better & that their lighter than the chrome moly steel that KTM,Husaberg,Husqvarna & Maico use on their bikes!

The KTM350EXC enduro would be the perfect off-road bike! Lots of power and lightweight - who needs two stroke! I'm putting my order in now.
WAKUPI -GOOD JOB  July 27, 2010 08:53 PM
THIS IS GOOD MAN I LIKE THIS 350.

Id throw it in the woods. -I'd get it in a heartbeat.  May 10, 2010 06:57 AM
A 350 fourstroke, fuel injected, electric start motocross bike?
Sweet.
Im on a 2007 CRF250R, with no mods but a pair of Cycra probend bar gaurds. And Im gonna say Im fine with it. Hard suspension? Deal with it. Id rather be confident with hard suspension everywhere, woods and track, then having soft suspension and worrying about a clank every once and a while. And hey nobody really uses offroad bikes for offroad (except KTM), a lot of people just take MX biek and throw em in the trails with minor adjustments and do fine. (what Im doin now)

But wow a 350F? Awesome. Ive heard 450's arent so great in the woods, and 250fs are pretty sweet but can occasionally be lacking. That E start makes it even better. And Fuel injection sounds pretty sweet too.

Id just want to know what the powerband will be like. High revving like a 250F? or more like a 450F? Engine intertia? Whatever, well wait and see. Should turn out pretty good.

la verdad se ve muy buena!...q tal anda para el enduro¿? viene la x¿? saludoss..

This will NOT fill the performance gap. It will rev higher than the current bikes, make as much power as the 450F's and weigh less. That means FASTER. The big problem with this? It will be less reliable then the already craptastic 4-stroke MX bikes. Figure 5-10 hours an engine. Whereas a 250 -stroke can last 50-80 hours. Also there is reason that Japanese went to Aluminum. Aluminum is NOT better than steel. The only thing that affects it is the geometry of the frame and you can get it the same with steel. Japan just had a steel shortage causing Aluminum to be much cheaper there. Steel is actually much stronger so can be built as light. And it is small tubing which means working on your bike is much easier since you can actually see it. A 350 2-stroke would be amazing. KTM had a 380 back around 2000. (I have a 2000 380SX). It is amazing. There were also 500s back in the day and I am sure they would be harder to ride than a modern 350 2t.
Ricco -Love it  April 1, 2010 11:00 AM
I cant wait to get the new 350...It will compliment my 505XC just fine. The 505 is a bit much sometimes!
CR500Rider -Pro Webrider  February 14, 2010 10:33 AM
Professional Goon,
I like the fact that they didn't jump on the aluminum bandwagon. A properly designed steel frame works just fine...Believe me, there is a reason that they have not developed a twin spar aluminum frame.
Professional Goon -Tubular steel frame?  February 10, 2010 09:59 AM
Why in the world would they not utilize an aluminum box frame like on every other new motocross bike? Despite better looks, aluminum frames perform better for MX. Seems like a waste and contradiction to innovate but leave something like the chassis with an ancient design.
Atho -Nice...  December 12, 2009 12:30 AM
This is gonna be an awsome bike but as I am a quad rider im curious to see if they make a 350 2stroke quad too...

I figured that KTM would reject that linkage the way a human body would reject a pig's heart. Interesting machine!
Ilya_Scoob -ti Big Ron  November 13, 2009 05:30 PM
.. I know it and that is why my previous bike was rm250 and now I'm thinking to buy KTM 250exc model to replace KX250F... but if KTM will make the 350EXC and it will be in the same weight (I hope) as 250EXC - I will try to get it...
Big Ron -Re: Ilya_Scoob - to x2468  November 13, 2009 09:00 AM
Ilya Scoob, I dont think the oil thing is that big of an issue; carry it with you and add when you fuel up; its not really that difficult and the weight difference in the bikes is a huge benefit.
Mxster -Can't wait  November 13, 2009 08:07 AM
I cant wait to see it in person and check it out. Wont be long till Yamaha throws out a 350. And just the thought of a 350cc 2-stroke is effin-nuts! that way to much wing-ding than anyone needs lol, just think of ye ole' CR500 2-stroke! rip your arms off in 1st gear!
Russ -fills a huge performance gap  November 12, 2009 05:54 PM
This is perfect! i give it 5 years before all the other top manufactures are producing 350MXers. Sometimes less is more. most of the people on 450's are not using half the usable power on tap and would be better suited to a lighter less intimidating bike. I know i am faster on my 250f than i am when i race a 450f.
Ilya_Scoob -to x2468  November 12, 2009 03:46 PM
Of course KTM makes biggest line of offroaders.. But - as you can see - lot of people modify their 250's-four strokes to 290-320cc because it have much torque and still as light as 250.. I'm using now KX250F in the woods - because it is light and powerful, but on open area I wish I had a little more - 100cc will be Ok to me - 450 is too much - I tried ;) as for 2-strokes - the only one reason why I do not like them - you should always have a oil to add to the fuel if you are going away from home more than 70 miles ... And as we can see europeans as SHERCO and Husky start produce mid sized enduro's with 300 and 310 engines. So I think KTM will make XC and EXC model with 350 engine soon. They should!
OCCRA-Dave -how light is it?  November 12, 2009 02:57 PM
I wonder what it will weigh? Hopefully it will be about the weight of their 250 4 stroke (pluse the added weight of the FI and linkage).
x2468 -@Ron  November 12, 2009 11:59 AM
I agree. i'd love to see a 350cc 2-stroke!
x2468 -ktm  November 12, 2009 11:59 AM
I find it odd that they're moving to linkage when all the reviews of the 2010 KTMs that are out seem to say that they finally gotthe non-linkage to work right. This makes the list of models KTM offers even more staggering. Even if money was no option, i'd still wrack my brain trying to decide which KTM to get. Especially if you factor in the husabergs. An off-road verson of the 350 might be nice but I don't know if it would be needed. Between all the versions of the 250 2-stroke, 300 2-stroke, 250 four stroke, 400 and 450, seems like they've already covered almost every range. I'd rather have a detuned 450 that doesn't require as much maintenance. With the on the fly engine map switch you can tame the motor or spice it up whenever you need.
JC -I'm with Scoob  November 12, 2009 10:17 AM
You said it, Scoob! If this 350 takes off, and I'm confident it will, there's no reason why KTM shouldn't expand it into the off-road lineups. I can guarantee that people will be buying the SX-F and modifying it for enduro use before we ever see a production version. I can't wait!!!
Rusty from The Woodlands Texas -KTM 350 SX-F  November 12, 2009 07:29 AM
Sweet machine. I think KTM is on the right track with a mid-bore and E-start. I think the rear shock had become way to complicated so moving back to linkage makes a lot of sense! 3 cheers to KTM!
andy -Voila...  November 11, 2009 06:35 PM
...the reencarnation of motocross...sleak, powerful and(of course) orange
..and Big Ron , the 2smoke injection is on its way 2011 ;)
Big Ron -Disapointed  November 11, 2009 06:10 PM
Should have been a 2-stroke!
Ilya_Scoob -EXC  November 11, 2009 04:17 PM
that is what I'm waiting for! Just add a headlight, sidestand and 18-inch rear wheel and it will be the perfect enduro bike ever made! Light and powerful! But not a crazy power as 450 .. Perfect for allround enduro! Hope we will see the full 350 line up from KTM soon...
Johnny FEISNAAA! -ROFL  November 10, 2009 07:15 PM
"but we can see that this new 350 is going to change things. Note the fuel injection, e-start and rear shock linkage." I love KTM but FI, e-start and Linkage have been around awhile so i don't think the're forging a new path....just saying.
JoJoBoy -not Bad  November 10, 2009 04:07 PM
Very nice....I really want a XC version of this.
