Trey Canard

One of the rising stars in the motocross / supercross world, after his rookie season many are calling him a title contender.

Trey Canard is generally regarded as one of the most friendly and mature youngsters on the national circuit. At the tender age of 13, Canard was forced to grow-up early after a tragic accident claimed the life of his dad while he was building a practice track for his son. Out of respect for his dad and a strong determination to succeed, Canard quickly climbed the ranks through the amateur series collecting wins and titles along the way.

“Turbo Trey” to his friends, Canard swept the Loretta Lynn’s Amateur Championships in 2006 in the B class and returned in 2007 to win both the Lites A and Lites A/Pro Sport Championships. During the same year, he was also awarded the annual Horizon award and signed to his first professional team with Factory Connection Honda.

In 2008, Canard tried his luck in the Monster Energy Supercross series and won the East Coast Lites Championship during his rookie year. Taking the 2008 title in honor of his father, TC also joined Chad Reed and an elite group of riders who have won a Supercross title in their very first season.

Canard continued with the renamed Geico Powersports Honda team in 2009, and was supported by a pair of highly touted rookies in Blake Wharton and Justin Barcia, making them one of the youngest and strongest squads in the pits. Trey appeared poised to repeat his previous year’s success until a crash in June broke his wrist and forced him out for the remainder of the season.

In 2010 Canard had a memorable season. Ice-Trey started his SX season off well by taking second at the season opener in Anaheim, and continued to put in strong rides on the West Coast Lites circuit, eventually earning third in the championship. Shortly after, he entered a tight points battle with Christophe Pourcel in the '10 AMA Pro Motocross Championship. After winning a total of five rounds, Canard managed to get the best of Pourcel at Pala Raceway and clenched his first 250 MX title. The 20-year-old put the final touches on his season by helping team USA win its sixth-straight MXoN.

His success in '10 helped land the 20-year-old a deal with Red Bull Honda in the 450 class for 2011. During his debut in the SX class TC secured three wins and multiple top-five finishes. A practice crash brought Canard’s season to a halt, however, as he suffered a broken femur with just three rounds remaining. The severity of the injury kept Canard on crutches until Round 7 of the ’11 AMA Pro Motocross Championship, where he returned to post a podium finish. Just one round later Canard re-broke his femur at Washougal – eliminating him from the rest of the series.

In 2012 Canard got through just two rounds of the AMA Supercross season before sustaining a broken back. During Round 3 in Los Angeles, Ryan Morais landed on top of Canard on the opening lap of the main event. Initial reports stated that he retained 100-percent feeling in his legs and arms and he later underwent surgery to stabilize the injured area. He remained out of competition for the remainder of the Supercross season and was sidelined through the entire 2012 AMA Motocross season as well. In July 2012 Honda announced that it had extended its contract with Canard through 2014 and he is expected to hit the track again in January 2013 for the Supercross opener in Anaheim.
