Honda is adding yet another small-displacement scooter to its lineup with the debut of the PCX
scooter. The Japanese marque announced the new model, a 125cc 4-stroke, will be on sale in Thailand starting this November. The scooter will be manufactured in the Southeast Asian country and exported throughout the region, with plans for eventual import to Japan, Europe and the United States.
The new Honda PCX scooter features an idling stop system, where the engine shuts down at idle to increase efficiency.
Powering the PCX is a liquid-cooled, 125cc 4-stroke Single. It will source Honda’s electronic fuel injection (PGM-FI) and the same linked CBS (Combined Braking System) found on the
2010 Honda Elite and SH150i scooters.
But the big news regarding the PCX is the new “idling stop system.” The idea being, once at a stop, the engine shuts down – thus further reducing emissions and increasing fuel efficiency to a claimed 50 km/l, which translates to us non-metricized Americans as 117 mpg.
Oddly enough,
Honda specifies the U.S. model will not feature the new idling stop system. Assuming the promises of American import are true, the PCX will reside smack dab in the middle of the 110cc Elite and 150cc
SH150i.
