India Motorcycle Sales Strong
Thursday, August 13, 2009
India is now the world's second-largest two-wheeler market and it continues to buck the trend of diminishing sales seen elsewhere. Sales of new motorcycles actually rose 9.8% in the year on year to 4,002,477 units for the January-June 2009 period. In June alone, the figure picked up as much as 17%, following 10%-plus increases in April and May.
These sales records are apparently due to rural farming villages, which are thriving due to the sale of agricultural products traded on global markets and spending the money on mobility products. The Indian government is also supporting farmers by exempting some of their debts, all of which seems to be working in favor of the powered two-wheelers.
