Valdosta is the Foundation for Atlanta Success for Adams Performance
One runner-up and two semifinal finishes at the AMA Dragbike event in Valdosta, Georgia laid a solid foundation for wins when the Adams Performance Kawasaki team returns to Georgia this coming weekend. This time, the Mooresville, North Carolina based team stops further north in the state at the MTC Elmer Trett Nationals at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce. The team expanded in the off-season to add teenage Ohio rider Jeremy Teasley to a roster that already included Rickey Gadson, AMA Dragbike’s winningest rider ever, superstar builder/tuner/sprint car driver Coby Adams, and chief mechanic Garron Miller. “We knew Valdosta would be a learning experience for the whole team,” said Adams. “But we had a great weekend. Everyone worked together well and it looks like a positive change for everyone.”
Indeed. In addition to his runner-up in Help Me Ride Financing Super Street, Kawasaki legend Gadson was also able to capture a Dragbike.com Supersport win for himself in Valdosta. Rickey plans to get out of the Super Street saddle to race Orient Express Pro Street on an Adams Performance built ’14 starting in Atlanta. “The guys burned the midnight oil for a week prior to Valdosta, with Devin Pearce from AME trying to get the Pro Street bike ready,” said Gadson. “But we fell short due to bad injectors. We won't bring it out until we know we can be competitive. This week we should get some testing in on Wednesday or Thursday before the Atlanta race, and if you see the bike unloaded from our trailer there, that will serve notice that we feel ready and confident. We are 100 percent confident that we will open a lot of eyes, and once again end up being the center of controversy!”
Teasley, who went to the semis in both Supersport and BST Real Street, will take over the reigns of the turbocharged ZX14 Super Street bike for the rest of the season. “With the Super Street bike, because of the rule change, we had to use a new boost controller,” said Adams. “So qualifying was our first test of the bike. It took us a little bit to get the concept of how it would control boost, but after some feedback from Rickey and some small changes, the bike was back to its old self and flying down the track. We never got aggressive with it so that we could collect some data from the bike and not waste any runs. Rickey did an awesome job like always. He proves time and time again why he is where he is in the sport.”
“The Super Street bike didn't receive any attention other than shortening it up for Jeremy,” said Gadson. “So were real proud that it performed the way it did.”
Reigning Real Street champion Teasley had two brand new bikes to get to know while under the gun in Valdosta. “We went down to Coby’s shop in Mooresville on Thursday before Valdosta and were very impressed,” said Jeremy. “The guys were really working hard to get the bikes done for the race. We tested at the eighth mile track there on Friday and I really liked the way the bikes looked and handled.” He liked them well enough to carry them both to the semis.
“With Jeremy and the new program in Real Street and Supersport, we never changed anything on the bikes and let him get comfortable riding them,” said Adams. “Now it is time to make some changes, give him some power, and let him show everyone what he can do. We gave everyone an easy pass in Valdosta. The next race we are coming with exhaust pipes glowing and tires smoking. It’s going to be a long season for the rest of the guys in our classes and records WILL fall! We are proud of Jeremy and Rickey for doing well this weekend, but next race we will settle for nothing but the winners circle!”
“For the first time out with the bikes, we’re happy with our finishes,” said Teasley. “We know it's only going to get better from here on out.”
“Valdosta was a real relaxed atmosphere, considering all the hard work Garron, Coby and the guys put in back in the shop,” added Gadson.
“We’re all working for the same goal—bringing home every championship in all the classes we’re in for Kawasaki, Monster Energy, Muzzy’s, and all the sponsors,” said Adams. “This season will be one of the best ever.”
The first test of Adams’ confidence comes this weekend when AMA Dragbike makes their annual Atlanta stop. “I’m really looking forward to Atlanta,” continued Teasley. “I hope the rain stays away, because it's rained the past two years I’ve raced there.”
