Capes Jumps Dirt-to-Dirt Distance Record

Monday, January 25, 2010
Motorcycle daredevil Ryan Capes set a new dirt-to-dirt distance jump at 290 feet. Riding a modified Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki Capes set the record on the compound grounds of Supercross icon Jeremy McGrath. Capes’ distance jump after TORC Off Road Truck Champion Johnny Greaves flew his Monster Energy/Toyota truck 301 feet - the new four-wheeled record.

Capes made his latest jump on a Kawasaki featuring a KX500AF 2-stroke motor crammed into a KX250F chassis. The 29-year-old’s jumping career includes numerous records and long-distance jumps, with the most recent a ramp-to-ramp distance record set in September 2009, flying 316 feet at Reno’s Grand Sierra Resort.

I prefer to call Capes something other than a daredevil. Evel Knievel and Seth Enslow are daredevils. Ryan Capes is not. The reason being Evel and Seth just pinned the throttle, held on, and hoped for the best and they crashed more than they successfully landed on two wheels. Capes doesn't fall into that same category. Call him an extreme sports athelete or something along those lines.

Also, who would have ever thought watching a motorcycle jump nearly 300ft would become fairly routine and almost boring? It's a crazy motorsports world that we live in these days.

Four stroke boys, notice what engine he is using. Something with power!!!
