2010 MotoUSA.com WMX Southwick Preview

Friday, August 27, 2010
It has been several weeks since the ladies last took to the track. For some, the long break away from racing allowed old injuries to finally heal. For others, comments of boredom flowed out of Twitter and Facebook on a daily basis.
DNA Shred Stix Yamahas Jessica Patterson took first overall at Millville despite crashing in Moto 2.
Jessica Patterson took the overall win in the last round at Spring Creek and currently leads the series by 22 points.

At Spring Creek in Moto 1, DNA Shred Stix Yamaha rider Jessica Patterson managed to stop Honda rider Ashley Fiolek’s recent string of first-place finishes. While Fiolek did put in a good race, she just couldn’t catch the Yamaha rider. At the end of the race, Patterson’s lead was over 25 seconds ahead of Troy Lee Designs rider Geiger and Fiolek. Geiger has been a consistent podium finisher this year and, considering she missed most of the series in 2009, her return to the WMX has been a tremendous success. Her accomplishments have placed her third in points, sitting only 30 points behind Fiolek. Vicki Golden, who put in an awesome ride, finished fourth followed by Alexah Pearson.

In Moto 2 the track conditions had utterly deteriorated and the ladies we forced to race in the slippery mud while maneuvering around an excessively rutted-out track. The rough terrain claimed several riders throughout the race including Golden, Geiger and Patterson. Fiolek took advantage of Patterson’s mishap and claimed the win, sending Patterson into second-place. Vicki Golden, who went down early in Moto 2, recovered well and put in an excellent race finishing third. Geiger, who had also recovered from her crash quickly, followed Golden into fourth. Sarah Whitmore, who has been struggling to find her pace, finished off the top-five with a fifth-place finish, earning her fifth overall for the evening.

The WMX now heads to MotoX 338 in Southwick, MA. The two main headliners, Patterson and Fiolek are set for an epic race. At this point Patterson is seated first in the series point standings with a total of 241 points. Fiolek is trailing Patterson by a mere 22 points. That means the championship title is still up for grabs. These two ladies will be at the top of their game this weekend as each attempts to add another championship title to their belt.
