Saturday, February 13, 2010

Ryan Villopoto topped qualifying for A3.
Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto was quickest in qualifying for tonight’s round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series at Angel Stadium, in Anaheim, California, turning a 59.571-second lap to top Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey by nearly half a second. Meanwhile, Dungey’s 1:00.016 edged San Manuel Yamaha-mounted Josh Hill’s 1:00.230 for second-fastest time.

Sitting fourth after qualifying was GEICO Powersports Honda’s Kevin Windham with a 1:00.338, followed by JGRMX/Yamaha’s Justin Brayton (1:00.729) and last week’s winner, Red Bull Honda’s Davi Millsaps (1:00.911).

Dungey, Hill, Villopoto and Millsaps are locked in a tight battle for the series points standings and tonight marks the final California round before the series moves east. It will be interesting to see who steps up in tonight’s race and establish the momentum before the series moves on.

In the West Regions Lites division, Troy Lee Designs/Luca Oil/Honda’s Wil Hahn was quickest with a 1:00.336, with Star Yamaha’s Broc Tickle (1:00.884) and Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Jake Weimer (1:01.312) rounding out the top five.

GEICO Powersports Honda teammates Blake Wharton (1:01.407) and Trey Canard (1:01.426) were fourth and fifth.

Weimer has four wins out of the five rounds held so far, but Hahn has been gaining speed with every race and may be primed for a win.

The A3 track was dry and in good condition today after three-straight weeks of muddy and slippery courses. Pink is the predominant color in the pits and on the track as the Anaheim 3 race has partnered with Komen For The Cure to host the first-ever breast cancer awareness race at Anaheim’s Angel Stadium. GEICO Powersports Honda teammates Trey Canard and Blake Wharton showed up in practice with pink Fox boots and gloves, while the Moto Concepts team featured pink graphics on their Yamahas.
