Supercross
For the second weekend in a row Kevin Windham laid down the quickest lap time in qualifying practice. The red rider from Centerville, Mississippi logged his best time of 54.507 seconds on his fifth lap during the second practice session. Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey was just a tick behind Windham with a 54.540. Last weekend’s race winner, Ryan Villopoto, finished up the qualifier with a 54.617 placing him ahead of JGR/Muscle Milk’s Justin Brayton. Regular West Coast Lites racer Trey Canard fills out the top five after turning a 54.795 on his borrowed Red Bull Honda CRF450R.

Kevin Windham was the fastest man in practice for the second weekend in a row. Can he pull off a win tonight?
Davi Millsaps is just out of the top five with a 55.109. Josh Hill took nasty tumble, leaving in the back of the Asterisk Medical Mule but not before turning in seventh best lap. Hopefully he will return for the evening program. Grant Langston, Ivan Tedesco and Jason Lawrence sit in eighth through 10th in that order.

Tonight’s track inside the Georgia Dome is fast and flowing. The Dirt Wurx crew has sculpted one of the best looking tracks so far this year. The red Georgia dirt is looks to be perfectly tacky on the jump faces and berms, while the flat turns are just loose enough for some wicked slides. Lappers and blocking riders shouldn’t be as much of an issue tonight; there are several lines in most of the corners and rhythm sections. Several technical sections have put more than a handful of riders on their lids during the three practice sessions. A massive quad jump, a double dragon-back section, and tricky camel hump are putting the smack down on anyone whose timing is not spot-on.

The GOAT was out in the first practice turning laps with the Supercross class. He is not racing tonight, but we wonder where he would finish.
A surprise rider appeared on the track during the first practice. A Suzuki with a Number 4 was seen airing out the nasty quad jump. That’s right the GOAT was on the track mixing up with the season regulars. Don’t get too excited though, he was just practicing for the opening ceremonies. Carmichael still has more speed than his retired status allows and was circulating the course at a competitive speed.
