2010 Daytona AMA Supercross Practice Report

Saturday, March 06, 2010
The perfectly manicured grass of the Daytona International Speedway has once again been transformed into the toughest Supercross track on the circuit. Ricky Carmichael designed a track that is challenging but fun for the riders. Several riders have said this is the best track they have ever ridden at Daytona. The combination of grass and sand track surface will surely deteriorate lap after lap. During practice the track began to get rutted and chopped up in true Daytona fashion during qualifying, so expect to see the track get brutally rough as the night program progresses.

Chad Reed returned to competition in Daytona. The Kawasaki riders hand must feel pretty good; he turned the fastest time in the first qualifying practice.
Chad Reed returned to competition in the 2010 AMA Supercross with the quickest qualifying lap at Daytona.
Chad Reed attempted a return to racing this weekend and it looked like he was never sidelined with a hand injury. The Monster Eneregy Kawasaki rider recorded the best time in the first qualifying practice. In the second session the Aussie swapped in a rhythm section, flying off the track. Despite his off-track excursion, his 1:02.830 lap from the first session held up as the quickest for the premier class. Unfortunately, Reed elected to sit out the rest of the day, indicating that something is still amiss. Ryan Dungey grabbed second on the last lap of qualifying 0.11 seconds ahead of Ryan Villopoto’s 1:03:441. Red Bull Honda’s Davi Millsaps and Trey Canard qualified fourth and fifth, respectively.

GEICO Honda’s Kevin Windham sits in sixth, followed by Thomas Hahn. Grant Langston matched his number plate to his qualifying position. Yamaha’s Josh Hill sits back in ninth as Kyle Chisholm fills out the top 10 qualifiers.
