2010 Dallas AMA Supercross Preview

Friday, March 19, 2010
This Saturday the 2010 AMA Supercross Series moves into the newly constructed Cowboy Stadium. The new home of the Dallas Cowboys cost over one billion dollars to build and can seat 80,000 fans. Rain is in the forecast for this week which will not be a problem under the retractable roof of the largest domed stadium in the world. Who will be the first riders to put their names in the win column for the first race in this massive structure?
Ryan Villopoto hopes to continue his winning ways in tonights final in the Rogers Centre.
Ryan Villopoto will be unning for his third win in-a-row in Dallas.  Can the Kawasaki racer continue to close the gap in the points chase?

Ryan Villopoto is coming on strong with two wins in a row and the most of any rider this season with five trips to the top of the box. Right now he trails Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey by 17 points. If he can continue his win streak he will inch closer to the points lead. We may see a showdown in Las Vegas for the title, especially once Chad Reed and James Stewart return to competition. Dungey isn’t going down without a fight, and will be looking to put a stop to RV’s streak for the second time this season. If the 22- year-old Suzuki pilot can get out ahead of Villopoto on the start expect him to stay there.

Honda’s Trey Canard is in the mix just to make it interesting. He has been gobbling up valuable points every trip to the podium that we're sure Josh Hill would like to have. Things could get really interesting if the stand-in for Andrew Short can put himself between Villopoto and Dungey. I’m sure the Monster Energy Kawasaki crew would love to the see a rider in between the RV and Dungey, and Canard looks like their only hope at this point in the game.

Josh Hill continues to slip back into the pack as the season wears on. Last week saw his points deficit grow with a sixth place finish in Toronto. He is holds a firm command of third place in the championship, but moving up a notch is very unlikely. Honda racers Davi Millsaps and Kevin Windham are just 5 points apart in fourth and fifth. Windham has been fast but has had some difficulties with crashes and bad starts. Meanwhile Millsaps struggles to find the magic combination that got him a win early in the season.
James Stewart ready to roll in 2010 - Anaheim 1
Will James Stewart return to competition in Dallas?  The Yamaha camp is tight lipped on his status.

It has been confirmed that Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Chad Reed will not be racing in Dallas. The official line is that he is still recovering from his injuries. No word on if it is his hand or thumb that is still giving him problems. James Stewart is just a big question mark at this point; however he is reported to be at a local dealership signing in Dallas. Does this mean he’ll be racing? We hope to see him back to further shake up the championship battle between Dungey and Villopoto.

East Coast Lites

It’s now official, Christophe Pourcel can be beat. GEICO Powersports Honda’s Justin Barcia rode an exciting race last weekend in Toronto to get his first win of his professional career. There is now doubt that the rookie has got the speed to run in the front of the pack, but his wild riding style has bit him once already this season. Can he keep it under control and take another win in Dallas?

Justin Barcia makes his professional Supercross debut in Indianapolis.
Justin Barcia is coming into Dallas hot off of a win in Toronto. Can the rookie sensation make it two-in-a-row?
Christophe Pourcel still lead the East Coast Lites championship, but his win streak was cut to just three in a row. A mostly one-line track and a tangle with a tough block cover left the defending champ with a third place in Toronto. Expect the Pro Circuit rider to come back with a vengeance this weekend to assert his reputation as the rider to beat.

Consistence wins championships, and Austin Stroupe has got that going for him. He has finished second every race so far this season. This has kept him with striking distance of Pourcel, sitting only seven points back. Just one win is all the Suzuki rider need to have the championship come down to the wire in St. Louis. One thing is for sure, Stroupe is sick and tired of finishing in second place. Will he finally find that extra bit of speed this weekend to score his first win this weekend?

Stayed tuned to MotoUSA for the practice and race reports to see what goes down in Dallas.
