Ryan Villopoto Supercross Injury Update

Monday, April 19, 2010
RVs night and season ended badly with a broken leg after a nasty spill.
Ryan Villopoto crashed hard while attempting to triple through a rhythm section.
Monster Energy Kawasaki's Ryan Villopoto is recovering after successful surgery to 'set and stabilize' his broken right leg. He will likely need an additional surgery when the swelling subsides. The unfortunate injury occurred when Villopoto crashed while leading the St. Louis supercross event.

"This is heartbreaking for both Ryan and the team," said Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Manager Mike Fisher. "RV was going for the championship and riding really well. It's a shame this happened because Ryan has shown so much resilience this season while trying to attain his first supercross championship. I know Ryan will do everything he can to get back as soon as possible."

Villopoto will remain in the hospital in St. Louis until he is able to travel back to California. He wants to thank all his fans for their thoughts, prayers, and support during this tough time.

Dungey has what it takes! He will race clean and defeat anybody for a long time till he pulls a Stewart vacation or burns, out like Reed. After all he has been winning everything and he's just getting started, I have been following motocross and racing since 66 have raced against world champions and studied individual skills on all the fastest riders all my life. Trust me when you see a racer who does not have to slam into you to win and rides smart without getting hurt you've got what it takes. Karma has a lot to do with life and the man above. Ryan V is an awesome champion however the new champion knows he won without having to race dirty to achieve victory. Bad luck follows you close when your dishonest to yourself and others, take a look at Josh Grant, dirty racer, nothing but problems... try beating everybody on skill only, you'll feel a lot better about your victory.

MX is a contact sport so for those of you out there that think an elbow here or there is dirty then i sugest you look into another sport such as womens knitting because you should be wearing dresses. On the other hand it was awsome to see RV come out swinging. He showed a lot of heart and its a shame that was the way he ended his season. Looking forward to the remach next season RV!

MX Ride Yamaha -better equip  April 25, 2010 06:11 PM
These kids and all of us could use a blow up suit. Something that inflates during these get offs to protect bones. Technology should be able to get this done. Better to bounce like a ball than dig like a human wedge.
ODell -Get better ASAP!!!!  April 24, 2010 09:10 AM
Ryan both you and RD are favorite rider's of mine... just rest up and you will be better than ever. Love your skill, heart and aggressiopn man you make it fun to watch and I try to ride like you every time I get on the track. You are a warrior RV. Get with the times jones yz125 old school. Don`t be a hater just because your boy didn`t win. If james was racing he would have spanked everybody. But thats racing , Its not Dungeys falt that everybody got hurt should we stop racing because of that. So congrads. to RD and get well soon to RV can't wait tell we a full field again.

I hate to see anyone get hurt, but I dont like to see the style of riding where you take someone out to get ahead! That was an aggressive pass that Villopoto tried on Dungey. Also, there is a limit to how fast you can go in this sport and Stewart, Villopoto and Carmicheal were all getting close to the limit and MX reached out and bit them. You can say what you want about Reed, Windham, Dungey, etc....but they ride smart....and fast and will be in it a long time.
CR 319 -Serves him right.  April 21, 2010 12:43 PM
Serves him right after the way he took out Dungey. I'm a fan of both riders but that kind of racing is BS. I'm still a fan of him but hopefully he will learn a lesson from what happened.
Rob Shingledecker -Shake it off !!  April 21, 2010 10:57 AM
Everybody knows you can rock that mamas boy, Dungy. If it was easy everybody would do it !! Hang in there and get healthy.
Michael 251-V -Villopoto  April 20, 2010 06:48 PM
This totaly "SUCKS" for RV. I hope he recovers fast so he can back and kick some "BUTT" in the Nationals. We all know he is a better rider than Dungey.

I hurt so bad when RV crashed. My knees, legs, shoulders and back have been busted up hundreds of times, so I physically know what RV will feel like in 30 more yrs. I'm still goin strong, and so will he. Love the sport and Love to crank throttles. Hang in there kid. We root for you every week. Praying for a good recovery. Peace...........Billy and Connie Rainer.....crbike50@yahoo.com...Nor-Cal fans.
x2468 -Well this sucks  April 20, 2010 09:35 AM
So many injuries lately.... Especially for RV and Stewart... Is it the same leg RV injured (broke?) at the start of the nationals last summer? I wonder if he'll be back in time for the Nationals this year???
