Chilly works his way through the second special test on the first loop of Day 4.
Wow, what a day and one I am glad to be done with. Today was the same route as Day 3; the one with the seemingly endless sand whoops. Of course those whoops just got deeper today, but those are all behind us now and we can look forward to some new course again tomorrow. Things are going well. The Honda is running great, I haven't had to do any real work to it, just filters, oil and tires. Even in these sandy conditions it will go an entire day on one air filter, so it has been pretty low maintenance.
I have to rank this right up there on the scale of difficulty, but of course that is just the way things should be. If it was too easy, it wouldn't be a real accomplishment to finish. We have lots of beat up riders. The sand has been responsible for lots of minor crashes. The hotel gets quieter each night as everyone seems ready to go to sleep earlier.
Much of the terrain here is beautiful, with spectacular views of the ocean, mountains and city. It is easy to get distracted while riding down the trail. I am looking forward to finishing up the home stretch and getting another Six Days completed. It looks like things will be a little easier from here on.
Heading to the finish.
