Motorcycle USA gets dirty recapping the highlights of the 2013 riding season in its annual Best of Awards Dirt video
– including selections for best enduro, dual-sport and motocross bike, as well as four-wheeled selections in the ATV and UTV segment.
Everyone is second fiddle to Polaris in the UTV market, but Can-Am landed a solid counterblow with the release of its Maverick 1000R X. In the Sport UTV world more is better - more power, more suspension, more room. The pace of one-upmanship has hit a fever pitch in in the past year or two with Can-Am stepping up to challenge the undeniable market-share leader Polaris.
The 2013 Can-Am Maverick X rs
blew us away with its imposing angular yellow and black bodywork that overshadows the presence of the other offerings out there. Once inside the Maverick, the cockpit is by far the best in the segment. Comfortable bucket seats hold you inside the nicely finished cab frame. The build quality is solid and polished.
On the trail the Maverick’s 101-horsepower 1000cc V-Twin engine just begs you to mash the right pedal. The throaty exhaust note is intoxicating and the top-end rush stellar. There is not another side-by-side powerplant with more character.
When the Maverick’s mill is pushed to the max, it’s good to know that Can-Am’s TTA independent rear suspension and front dual A-arms will soak up anything in your path. And when speed gets close to the breaking point, four-wheel 214mm ventilated discs will haul the yellow beast to a stop with power and control.
The up-spec’ed model features high quality cast aluminum beadlock wheels, beefy Maxxis BigHorn tires and Fox Podium shocks to up the cool factor. With its aggressive styling, intense power and nearly bottomless suspension the 2013 Can-am Maverick X rs is the Best UTV of 2013.
