Chaz Davis (shown above on the Aprilia he rode in AMA) will join Gary McCoy on the BE1 Triumph team in World Supersport for 2010.
Triumph BE1 Racing announced today in a release the signing of Australian veteran racer Garry McCoy and young British talent
Chaz Davies to ride for its factory-supported World Supersport team in 2010.
McCoy is arguably most famous for his sideways antics aboard the Red Bull Yamaha 500cc Grand Prix bike, for which he took to several race wins before a severe leg injury set him back. Since then he’s had a rollercoaster of rides on various teams in a host of series. But recently he found a home with the Triumph squad the past two years, including a podium at the final of the 2009 season in Portugal.
Young English rider Davies brings loads of talent to the UK-based team. American fans got to know the up-and-coming racer during the past two seasons of AMA racing, the first of which he rode on the Attack
Kawasaki squad and then last year for
Aprilia in Daytona SportBike, a bike which he managed to podium on twice, even battling for the lead at Laguna Seca with
Ben Bostrom. Before his American tenure Davies was a regular on the world 250cc Grand Prix stage.
Commenting on the new line-up is Triumph’s Director of Sales and Marketing Paul Stroud: “We are delighted to strengthen our relationship with Giuilano Rovelli and the BE1 Racing team and look forward to a successful 2010 campaign. In Chaz and Garry we arguably have the best two-rider line-up in the championship and with the experience gained by the team over the past two years I believe that the Daytona 675 will be a major force in the world championship.”
With Davies leaving this marks the lost of yet another young talented rider from the DMG-run AMA Pro Racing Series as grids continue to diminish for 2010.
