Round 10 of the World Superbike Championship in Great Britain will go down in the history books as being completely dominated by its fellow countrymen. In both contests British riders led an assault on the podium, with Yamaha Sterilgarda’s Cal Crutchlow making it to the top step both times for the double victory. Also putting in a strong performance was Irishman Jonathan Rea, who went 2-2 at the Silverstone circuit. Alstare Suzuki’s Leon Haslam and Aprilia's Leon Camier both made appearances in the top-three, each putting in strong rides at their home circuit to give Britain a total podium sweep of the weekend.

Race 1

In the opening race Rea had a strong start that led him to the front of the pack. Also getting a good start was Aprilia’s Max Biaggi, who maneuvered into the top-three going into the first corner. The championship leader soon ran wide, however, giving the inside edge to Ducati’s Michel Fabrizio. Also making his way past BIaggi was Haslam after Mad Max made another vital mistake. In the meantime Crutchlow was right on Rea’s rear wheel, and on Lap 6 the Yamaha rider began to pressure the Irishman for the lead.

Behind the two frontrunners Haslam successfully overtook Fabrizio for third, giving Britain the top-three spots before the halfway mark. Biaggi continued to be under attack as Camier, who started back in 16th on the grid, made a pass on the Italian to move into fifth. Biaggi soon retaliated, however, and came back to secure fifth-place from his fellow teammate.
Jonathan Rea posted the second-fastest lap at the SIlverstone circuit during qualifying ahead of Leon Haslam.

In the end Crutchlow was able to open a two-second gap on the competition via his best 2'05.259 lap time. He cruised to the victory in Race 1 for the first time in the ’10 season, converting his pole position into a well-earned win.

“I think that one of the nicest things about the win is that we repaid Yamaha back for their efforts,” said Crutchlow. “It’s not been easy on us, we’ve been trying hard all year, but I’m absolutely ecstatic about bringing the win home!”

Behind Crutchlow by more than one and a half seconds was Rea followed by Haslam in third, making it a dominant British sweep of the podium at their home circuit.

“Cal quite simply had a little more pace than me in the race,” Rea said, “a couple of tenths a lap on average. My bike worked very well, but I think we got a bit let down by the tire. It’s nice to be on the podium and I’m enjoying riding around Silverstone.”

Championship leader Biaggi couldn’t keep the pace of the frontrunners, and ended up fifth, more than 17 seconds behind Crutchlow.

Race 2

In the second contest Rea took the lead early but was once again shadowed by Crutchlow. Suffering extreme disappointment early in the race was BMW’s Troy Corser, who crashed out in Turn 1 and had to take a DNF. Rea began pulling ahead of the pack and Crutchlow kept the pace,

while Haslam and Biaggi fought for the number three spot behind them. Camier put in another strong charge in the second race to secure third place by the halfway point.

"A fantastic day,” said Camier. “Too bad about the sixteenth starting position. Unfortunately mistakes in Superpole come at a high cost! As the practices showed, the feeling on this circuit was very good from the start and in the race I was able to really push, truly earning a lot of positions. In the first race I finished behind my teammate. In Race 2 I was able to lock onto the front group straight away, although Crutchlow and Rea unfortunately were already away. I'm happy for a podium in front of my fans. It's also a nice reward for my team and for Aprilia.”

With only two-and-a-half laps left Crutchlow made a decisive move on Rea, passing the Honda rider for the lead. Crutchlow then went on to seal his double victory, this time crossing the line 2.070-seconds ahead of Rea. The podium was rounded out by Camier and, after taking third place in Race 1, Haslam posted another decent ride to cross the line fourth in Race 2. Toseland improved upon his first race performance to take a close fifth, while Biaggi continued to struggle and finished in sixth, though still satisfied with the weekend.

"I am coming out of this weekend quite satisfied,” said Biaggi. “Even if these are not the placings I could have achieved. It was difficult here and adjusting my RSV4 on the bumpy Silverstone track was hard. In Race 2 I finished sixth behind five English riders. I think that the home field factor really gave them some extra motivation."

After finishing fourth in Race 2, Haslam has now decreased Biaggi’s lead in the championship to 60 points. Despite having an off day, Biaggi still leads the series, with Haslam and Rea eagerly chipping away at his lead. After going 7-10 at Silverstone, Ducati’s Carlos Checa has dropped further behind Rea and trails the Irishman by 39 points. Japanese rider Noriyuki Haga dropped two positions in the championship to seventh after finishing Sunday’s races outside of the top-10.

Supersport

The Supersport contest in Great Britain was a close one, with Parkalgar Honda’s Eugene Laverty taking the victory by 0.220 seconds ahead of Honda Ten Kate’s Kenan Sofuoglu. Laverty was in the lead for the majority of the race, but during the final laps Sofuoglu made a late charge for the front, setting a fastest lap of 2'08.717 in the process. With his
Parkalgar Hondas Eugene Laverty was unable to finish at Brno due to mechanical problems and as a result took a 22-point loss in the WSS series.
Eugene Laverty fought back against Kenan Sofuoglu to score the win in Supersport.
quick pace Sofuoglu overtook Laverty for the lead, but in the end Laverty returned the favor and the Irishman went on to score the race win. Intermoto Czech Honda’s Gino Rea had a successful day in which he earned a podium finish for the first time in Supersport. Triumph’s Chaz Davies took fourth after being 13.683 seconds adrift of the leader, followed by Honda’s Robbin Harms in fifth.
 
Sofuoglu now has a 17-point lead in the series ahead of Laverty with only three races left in the championship.

Kenan Sofuoglus victory at Brno coupled with Eugene Lavertys DNF has resulted in Sofuoglu retaking the lead in the championship by 15 points over Joan Lascorz.
Kenan Sofuoglu now leads the series by 17 points ahead of Eugene Laverty.

In all seriousness though, i'm sure even though the ducs got ANOTHER weight reduction for this race with a poor showing, i'm sure they'll be requesting another weight reduction... & a bigger engine... & a weight increase for the inlines... & a head start... &...
