Championship leader Max Biaggi will start Sunday's double header from pole position.

Aprilia Alitalia’s Max Biaggi earned his second career Superpole victory after an impressive effort on Saturday. Biaggi will be joined on the front row by Althea Ducati’s Carlos Checa, Alstare Suzuki’s Sylvain Guintoli and in a surprise turn of events, Ten Kate Honda’s Johnny Rea.

“After my crash I had a pain in my back and my left arm but nothing broken, just a big crash,” explained pole-sitter Max Biaggi. “We did a lot of work in set-up on the bike and our race pace is not so bad. For the race tires, we are not so bad and after a few laps there should be even better grip. I am happy for me and my team, and all my sponsors.”

After qualifying third in the final Superpole session, Sterilgarda Yamaha’s James Toseland was penalized for leaving pit lane prior to the official start of the Superpole 3 session. The penalty drops him to eighth place on the grid. This is a disappointing turn of events for the former world champion who has been strong all weekend.

"I've really enjoyed riding around the Nurburgring, it's pretty new to me as I've not been here for eleven years. Unfortunately I exited the pit lane apparently on a red light, I didn't do that intentionally but I've been penalized so my third position grid start has been taken away and I've been put back to eighth on the second row of the grid. The first two rows are really important here because the first corner is very tight. I'm obviously disappointed about that but the officials have taken that stance, I can't really argue with it I just have to comply, that's the rules. I'm still looking forward to two good races tomorrow." – James Toseland, Sterilgarda Yamaha.

The second row is headed by Alstare Suzuki's Leon Haslam alongside Ducati Xerox's Noriyuki Haga, Kawasaki's Tom Sykes and the afore mentioned James Toseland.
