Ron Barber scored the inaugural win in the TTXGP aboard the Team Agni entry at the 2009 Isle of Man.
Riders made history this summer during the inaugural TTXGP electric motorcycle race at the
Isle of Man. Now the TTXGP (Time Trial eXtreme Grand Prix) is headed to America, with a U.S. championship race planned for 2010 at Infineon Raceway. The event will be held May 14-16 during the
AMA Pro Road Racing stop at the Bay Area circuit.
The TTXGP will showcase the latest technology of the fledgling electric-powered motorcycle industry. Ron Barber took the inaugural TTXGP win riding the British/Indian Team Agni entry at the IOM electric motorcycle exhibition. There were, however, a number of American entries in the race, with many hailing from the West Coast (Mission Motors and Electric Motorsport are both based out of Northern California, with three Oregon based teams: Brammo, Barefoot Motors and MotoCzysz).
“When it comes to development of zero carbon motorcycles, Northern California is the center of the industry, so it makes perfect sense that Infineon Raceway should host the first event in this historic new series," said Infineon’s Steve Page, in a press release announcing the event. "This will be a terrific addition to our two-wheel racing lineup next May.”
The enthusiasm of Page is echoed by Azhar Hussain, who founded the TTXGP:
“With the success of the TTXGP on the Isle of Man, we have shown that zero carbon technology is ready to deliver the thrills and passion for both spectators and riders. In partnership with Infineon Raceway, we are taking the next step and proud to be pushing new frontiers in motor-sports technology both on and off the track. We invite the best and the brightest in the world to join us at Infineon Raceway for the dawning of the next generation of motor sports in the United States."
The TTXGP U.S. Championship will run alongside the AMA’s American Superbike and Daytona SportBike classes, as well as the AMA Supermoto series. Stay tuned for more developments of the US TTXGP.
