2010 AMA Pro Road Racing Schedule Out

Thursday, November 05, 2009
Mladin parlayed pole position into a 0.734-second lead by the end of Lap 1 and never looked back in the wire-to-wire win in Race 2 - American Superbike Infineon Raceway
Mladin-less, the AMA Pro Road Racing series moves on with a nine-round schedule confirmed for 2009
After a tumultuous 2009 season, AMA Pro Road Racing is back for 2010, announcing a nine-race schedule in a recent press release. In the same statement, AMA Pro Road Racing confirms “negotiations are ongoing for a tenth race,” with notable omissions for the tentative ’10 schedule being Miller Motorsports Park and Laguna Seca.

The season will kick off at with its traditional start at Daytona, with the 69th running of the Daytona 200. Also tradition now, it would seem, the 200 will run under the lights. The prestigious race will be televised live on Speed Channel Friday, March 5.

Speed will televise the remaining eight rounds with “flag-to-flag same weekend coverage of the two premier classes.” We assume those “two premier classes” (a term which seems oxymoronic) are still American Superbike and Daytona SportBike. Without mentioning the race class names, the AMA release does promise the return, post Daytona, of the dual race weekend format from last year: a pair of 50-mile sprints on Saturday and Sunday.

After Daytona the series heads to the West Coast and the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, followed by Road Atlanta, then back to California at Infineon. The Road America circuit in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin marks the halfway mark, and the remaining schedule stays back East at Mid-Ohio, VIR, New Jersey, with the close slated at Barber.

While the Miller and Laguna absences are a glaring hole in the schedule, it is notable that the Topeka round is also gone. AMA fans will recall the Topeka circuit was boycotted by both Mat Mladin and Jamie Hacking due to safety concerns.

AMA Czar Roger Edmonson
The 2009 seasn was a rough one for Roger Edmondson and the DMG. Can the series rebound in 2010?
AMA Pro President Roger Edmondson from PR: “It is with great enthusiasm that we announce the continuation of a great partnership with SPEED. Their commitment to the growth of our sport and their unique ability to capture the excitement that the athletes and machines of our sport put on display every race weekend made continuing our relationship an easy decision. With our broadcast partner in place and our schedule visiting the best venues in the United States, we expect 2010 to be a great year and look forward to kicking off the season in Daytona."

when I was racing back in the early 80's I remember when R. Edmondson started CCS. It was supposed to be the next best thing. The entrance fees were higher and as I remember there were no payouts but there was the promise of better racing. The next season he showed up with a huge new motor home and " TV gold " dripping from everywhere while the racers struggled to pay the higher fee's. He reminded me of a TV evangelist asking for money from the people who can least afford to spend it and pocketing as much as he can. It's unfortunate he is involved with the top level of racing in this country. He is not a people person and has only his interests in mind. In the end it will all end up where most of his ventures end up, in the courts, where he will bleed the rest of the money out of motorcycle racing and leave it in ruins. Bummer.
RBen -.........DMG BLOWS  November 27, 2009 07:08 PM
YEAH what KM said.
Julio A. -DMG has officially ruined motorcycle racing in the USA  November 17, 2009 11:18 AM
I cant believe they took away the Laguna Seca round. Or Miller, for that matter...both are excellent facilities... Oh well, guess that means I will just have to spend all my money at the Moto GP races, and none of it at any DMG/AMA races... Awesome moves, dumbas*es!!!
Jeff A. -2010 Sched.  November 12, 2009 05:58 PM
Laguna, and Miller, and Indy, are our premier tracks in this country. Why are they not included? If it costs more money to run there...DUHH!! Of course it does! They're world class facilities! Pony up, and get our AMA series the respect they deserve, and you will get the audience to pay attention, right? Adopt the WSS/SBK rules and you will see the results. DMG, stop ruining American motorcycle racing!
Big E -WTF??!! No Leguna Seca??!!  November 12, 2009 10:04 AM
Ok, its official...DMG has completely ruined the series. First, they ran an 1125cc twin against 600s then they made that the class the premier class of the series and they've managed to alienate mfrs, teams, riders and the fans. Hey DMG...get a clue and listen to the mfrs, riders and race fans and repair the damage by adopting proven rules like WSS & WSBK because they work (almost never any back markers either). AMA's credibility as a worthy race series was rising until DMG came along...oh and if some rep at DMG want to respond to this comment as they angrily did to a comment i posted on their site here is my email because i have more to say...macfee46@gmail.com...yall screwed up...arrogant bastards...
Steve -What about Miller Motorsports Park?  November 9, 2009 07:55 AM
This DMG/AMA partnership thing is starting to reek!
KM -DMG sucks!!!  November 8, 2009 07:18 PM
What the fu**, why would you cancel Laguna; I know becouse DMG sucks. Can we please have a sponsor that loves motorcycle racing and not a nascar wanna bee; Thank GOD for World Super Bike and MotoGP. I am saving my money for Miller and Indy.
noname -Laguna?!?! :(  November 6, 2009 03:54 PM
What happened to Laguna!!? That's the biggest and best race of the season!!! That should be the LAST race to be eleminated!!! It won't be the same!!! I think that this is only pullin AMA down more. So much for Mladin's wish for "some smarter heads to prevail in 2010" .... yea I'm already not lookin forward to Laguna as much as I did :(
Terry -Southpark episode...  November 6, 2009 02:46 PM
Not to change the subject here. Hey Bart, what happened to your Southpark (comedy central episode)Blog about Harley Riders and Loud Pipes? I read it this morning, but now it's gone. Did someone at M-usa make you take it down? What gives? This is one of the few places I enjoy to catch motorcycle information, good or bad. Couldn't find your e-mail to ask you directly. If anyone wants to know what I'm talking about, catch the latest Southpark episode on the internet. It's hoot.
jody -ama/dmg give them a chance  November 6, 2009 10:37 AM
lets see wat happens maybe dmg has learned a little from last season. I think that from all there mistakes and there was plenty ! dmg is in this sport to make money. There going to do everything they can to make it work and to please the fans and the manufactures. There is plenty of talent ready and waiting to race. RE tried it his way and it didnt work. People over him want let him do it again. To much at stake !
Samxrl -Lame-o!  November 6, 2009 06:37 AM
Let's see--spotty brand and team representation(check), poor factory support from the manufacturers(check),maybe less than 5 riders in a given race with any chance of winning while the rest are backmarkers(check), attendance at venues upwards of 20-30 viewers strong(check), all while the competition oversees has a talent pool of riders waiting for rides and attendance of 60,000+ people.Hmmm guess which races I'll save space for on my DVR! No offense but if American roadracing continues on it's path then I say "put a fork in her cause she's done"!
Cactus -We need a hero  November 6, 2009 05:49 AM
I have to agree that the series looks bleak. I may watch a few events to see how Josh Hayes does, but overall I'll be following Ben Spies career. We need someone who know bikes to take this thing over. I hate to put the whole blame on him, but does Edmondson even ride??? If you want some good entertaiment from a racing series check out the speedway series on HD Theater. Well run, and dramatic!
KK -dumn  November 6, 2009 05:22 AM
Well I can say no laguna is kinda lame, but for me, at least, im glad to see NJMP on there cuz now i get to go back and watch them race again!
Charlie Toast -No Laguna!  November 6, 2009 04:42 AM
No Laguna, no watcha! DMG have killed this series stone dead. Only nine races on the schedule so far - that's half a series. I feel sorry for the riders, who must feel that AMA Pro is a dead end to any career.
Guy -I'm done with the AMA Series  November 6, 2009 02:59 AM
Going to spend my time following WSB and Moto GP.
SilverStreak -Bad Year at AMA Racing  November 5, 2009 10:49 PM
DMG management made a bad decision last season racing at Topeka. It was clearly a 3rd class venue and made the series look cheap. Matt Maladin's boycott of the race was justified, and he promply retired. There was a concrete wall, against the finish line, perpendicular to the edge of the track that was a horrible crash hazard coming out of a sweeping turn to the finish line. I couldn't believe it! Then Honda dropped out of the series after this race as well. AMA ran a better race.

Eric -2010 schedule  November 5, 2009 07:56 PM
Laguna out? My guess is DMG doesn't want to look like a bunch of dunderheads in front of the motorcycle racing world again like this past summer.
Me -And the hits just keep on coming...  November 5, 2009 04:27 PM
No Laguna?!?! That's un-American for an American Series. Give a medal to that guy whoever came to this result...
