Huntley Nash took the SuperSport win on Sunday ahead of J.D. Beach and Tomas Puerta.
Huntley Nash claimed victory in the second AMA Supersport race at Road America after a tense competition between the top-three riders. In the beginning Nash was off to an early lead, but Tomas Puerta and Rockwall Performance’s J.D. Beach stayed close and the three riders exchanged positions multiple times throughout the 10-lap event.
As the riders entered their second lap it was Nash followed by Puerta, Beach, James Rispoli and Kawasaki’s David Gaviria. Beach was laying down some extremely fast time on the track to make gains on Puerta and Nash, and by Lap 4 the Yamaha rider was able to make the jump ahead of Nash for first-place.
In her attempt to stay with the frontrunners Elena Myers suffered a crash on Lap 4 which set her back to 15th. Cameron Beaubier of Rockwall Performance suffered a bad start from ninth where he found it difficult to catch up to the lead riders.
During the halfway-point it was Puerta who was able to take the lead ahead of Beach and Nash, who had then dropped down to third. Back in fifth-place Rispoli managed to make the pass on Gaviria for fourth.
On Lap 6 it was then Beach’s turn to take the lead ahead of Puerta and Nash, but Puerta didn’t let the Yamaha bike out of his sight, and was only 0.136 seconds off pace with Beach.
In the final pass for the lead, Nash dropped the hammer and once again made the pass over Beach for first. Shortly afterwards Gaviria lost his seventh-place position when he crashed out on Lap 8.
With Nash, Puerta and Beach headed into the final lap it was Beach was able to overtake Puerta for second, and at the very end Beaubier was able to make some additional passes to finish in sixth.
Finishing just off the podium was the Yamaha rider Miles Thornton followed by Suzuki’s James Rispoli.
