Blake Young does a victory burnout at Round 3 of the 2010 AMA Pro Road Racing series, where the Wisconsin native recorded his first American SuperBike victories. Young is out indefinitely as he recovers from back injury.
competitor Blake Young is out indefinitely as the Wisconsin native recuperates from a vertebrae fracture. The injury occurred during June 9th testing at Barber Motorsports Park. According to a Suzuki press release, medical tests indicate the 22-year-old “fractured the L-1 vertebrae in his back.”
After the high-side crash at Barber, Young sought medical advice “when low-level back pain persisted in the days following the test.” The injury will require Young wear a “soft body cast to aid in the healing process.”
“Specialists indicate the fracture will heal naturally with no surgery required,” said Yoshimura R&D of America Vice President Don Sakakura, via press release. “The length of Blake’s absence is unknown at this time, but once completely healthy, we look forward to his return to American Superbike racing.”
The news spoils Young’s title hopes as the Yoshimura
Suzuki rider stood fourth in the championship and trailed the leader, teammate Tommy Hayden, by 32 points. Young scored his best SuperBike finish to date at Road Atlanta in April, where he tallied a double victory performance.
The next round of the
AMA Pro Racing Series will take place July 16-18 at Mid-Ohio, with Round 6 of the championship followed the very next week by Round 7 at Laguna Seca, in conjunction with the USGP.
