Australian Superbike Champion Josh Waters has seen his American SuperBike debut put in question after crashing at Willow Springs during testing.
Australian Superbike champ Josh Waters is recovering from injuries sustained during a crash at Willow Springs Raceway. Scheduled to replace the injured Blake Young in AMA
American SuperBike at the upcoming rounds at Mid-Ohio and Laguna Seca, Waters crashed Wednesday, July 7 during a one-day test at the Californian circuit.
Suffering a collapsed lung and concussion in the get-off at Turn 8, Waters was transported to the hospital via helicopter. An American
Suzuki press announcement states the 23-year-old rider is in stable condition and will be evaluated for his racing return in the days to come.
Waters is currently defending his Australian Superbike title, which he claimed in his rookie campaign, a feat not duplicated since Mat Mladin did the same in 1992. Waters’ participation in the American SuperBike series as Young’s replacement would not have caused him to miss any of the Australian Superbike races.
Young continues to recover, with an August return planned at the VIR round. Like his replacement, Young was also injured during testing, with the Yoshimura rider fracturing his L-1 vertebrae at the Barber Motorsports Park in June.
