Team Graves Yamaha's Josh Hayes used a strong start then rode a tactically sound race to hold off Pat Clark Motorsport Yamaha's Ben Bostrom for the victory in Race 1 at Mid-Ohio.
Team Graves Yamaha rider Josh Hayes entered today’s race at Mid-Ohio tied for the
American SuperBike point’s lead with Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Tommy Hayden. The tie is broken after Hayes took victory in Saturday's American SuperBike race at the Ohio circuit.
Hayes used a strong start to overcome Hayden, as both Pat Clark Motorsports Yamaha’s Ben Bostrom and Foremost Insurance Pegram Racing’s Larry Pegram also powered by on Lap 1, dropping Hayden back to fourth. The early pecking order was sustained the majority of the race as Hayes rode to his fourth victory in the last five races, taking the checkers by 0.219-seconds.
Bostrom did his best to keep Hayes in his sights, never falling off the pace by more than a second, but Hayes was too much on the R1 today. Bostrom looked like he might have a small window of opportunity to overtake Hayes on the last lap, but Hayes quickly slammed that window shut.
Pegram ran a strong third for much of the race with National Guard Jordan Suzuki's Jake Zemke also keeping pace with the frontrunners. But Hayden upped his pace in the second half of the race and tracked both of them down to grab the final spot on the podium. Hayden now trails Hayes by 10 points in the American SuperBike point standings.
Pegram would hold onto the fourth position and remains in the title hunt with 230 points. M4 Monster Energy Suzuki's Jake Holden captured fifth after moving ahead of Zemke, who would cross the line sixth.

Brett McCormick (#23) tied his best results of the American SuperBike season with a seventh-place finish.
Jordan Suzuki’s second rider, Brett McCormick, tied his best results of the season with a seventh-place showing. The second member of the Bostrom clan, brother Eric, had a decent outing considering he hadn’t competed in the American SuperBke class since 2008 and finished eighth on the Cycle World Attack Performance Yoshimura Suzuki.
M4 Monster Energy Suzuki’s Chris Ulrich finished ninth-fastest ahead of the highest-placing Honda of Jordan Szoke, who rounded out the top ten.
Erik Buell Racing’s Geoff May suffered a mechanical issue and called it a day after only two laps. Kurtis Roberts, who was also making his return to AMA Pro Racing, didn’t fare as well as E-Boz. Roberts was in 12th place on the 13th lap when he lost the rear of his RidersDiscount.com Yamaha and washed out of the race.
