Danny Eslick
Danny Eslick took his second consecutive victory in the XR1200 series at Mid-Ohio.
After taking a victory in the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike class at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Danny Eslick threw his leg over a Harley-Davidson to compete in the second round of the newly-established Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 series. Eslick took his second consecutive victory on his RMR Bruce Rossmeyer Daytona Racing Harley-Davidson, and furthered his lead in the championship to 18 points.

"This class is a lot of fun,” said Eslick. “I just like riding the XR1200, and winning is going to make my drive to California that much more fun, looking at my two trophies all the way!"

Earning second was Shawn Higbee of HOG Racing, followed by Eslick’s RMR Bruce Rossmeyer teammate, Jake Holden. Eslick and Holden had a tense battle for the lead, but Holden couldn’t keep the pace and eventually fell back to third in the final laps of the contest. Kyle Wyman finished in fourth, while his brother, Travis Wyman, came in eighth. Another rider who competed in multiple events during the Honda Super Cycle Weekend at Mid-Ohio was Eric Stump, who took 12th in Race 2 of the AMA SuperSport class, and fifth in the XR1200 competition.

John Ashmead, a former Daytona 200 and Superbike winner, took sixth aboard his Brady Schwemmer Racing XR1200. Finishing behind Ashmead was Paul James on his James Gang Hoban Brother's Racing XR1200.

Round 3 of the Vance & Hines XR1200 series will take place at Virginia International Raceway on August 13th-15th.

Racetwins -Inline Fours have no Soul  July 22, 2010 02:50 PM
It is easy to pick on Harleys trying to go fast. It might not make much sense when you only look at lap times. Racing a single, twin or even a triple can be exciting in ways an inline 4-cyl cannot. The torque and power delivery is very distinctive for each engine configuration and inline fours just have no soul.......almost like an electric motor, where is the fun in that?

Harley Davidson has a huge following. Maybe a little older than supersport folks but they've got money and it is an untapped market. It's safe to say they can't compete with the metric folks but there's always room for another race. I would never expect HD to compete in this venue and I don't think they would either however it still is racing... maybe even a little more exciting due to the "will it finish the race" factor. The only thing is will the people who love their HD's get along with the folks who love their metric bikes?

I'm no fan of Harley but I remember the 883 class in the 90's at AMA events that the Bostroms ran in. Watching those wobbling shaky things getting pushed to the limit was great. Kind of like the local stock cars races going bonkers.

It's great to see Harley taking the top spots in racing... Oh, wait, there only racing Harleys. Welcome to NASCAR. One model, one make, all they need to do is only turn left in a circle. ( Buell R.I.P. )
