Josh Hayes of Team Graves Yamaha clenched provisional pole on Friday at Virginia International Raceway aboard his Yamaha YZF-R1. With a time of 1’25.103 Hayes outran Pat Clark Motorsports’ Ben Bostrom and Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Tommy Hayden. Trailing Hayden by 0.154 seconds was Ridersdiscount.com’s Taylor Knapp in fourth. Knapp was the final rider to dip below the 1’26 mark during qualifying, and was chased by Erik Buell Racing’s Geoff May who rounding out the top-five after setting a time that was more than a second off the leader’s pace. Monster Energy Suzuki’s John Hopkins took sixth on the timesheets with a lap of 1:26.310, and was 0.176 seconds ahead of Ducati rider Larry Pegram. Currently third in the SuperBike championship, National Guard Jordan Suzuki’s Jake Zemke had the eighth-best time aboard his GSX-R1000 but was 1.7 seconds adrift of Hayes’ pace. Rounding out the top-10 times were Ben Bostrom’s brother, Eric Bostrom, in ninth followed by Monster Energy Suzuki rider Chris Ulrich in tenth.

In Daytona SportBike Team Graves Yamaha’s Josh Herrin put in a blazing-fast lap for the leading time in Friday’s qualifying by more than half a second. Herrin was the only rider in his class who managed a time under the 1’28 mark, with M4 Monster Energy Suzuki’s Martin Cardenas and Herrin’s Yamaha teammate, Tommy Aquino, rounding out the top-three times. Geico Powersports Suzuki rider Danny Eslick ran fourth with his time of 1:28.410, and Vesrah Suzuki’s Chris Fillmore earned fifth after being more than a second off Herrin’s pace. In sixth was Fillmore’s teammate, Cory West. Maxima Racing Oil’s Jeff Wood, DNA Ducati’s Bobby Fong and Project 1 Yamaha’s Clinton Seller all ran within one second of each other to round out the top-10 qualifying times of Friday.

DNA Energy Drink Yamaha rider Joey Pascarella put in a strong run in the SuperSport class to take provisional pole ahead of Rockwall Performance’s J.D. Beach by just one tenth. Currently leading the east division, Beach had to settle for second-best after putting in his best effort of 1:29.351 around the Virginia circuit. Both Pascarella and Beach were in a league of their own, however, and were the only two who reached into the 1’29 zone. Third in the books went to Tomas Puerta, who’s time was nearly one second adrift of the leader’s pace. Meanwhile, James RIspoli took fourth behind Puerta, and was followed by Huntley Nash. Aboard a Kawasaki Ninja Dustin Dominguez earned the sixth-fastest time after completing a lap in 1:30.678. After taking second-place in the Laguna Seca round, Austin Dehaven had the ninth-best time on Friday despite being more than two seconds adrift of Pascarella’s pace.
