
Last year's Japanese GP winner Jorge Lorenzo will have to wait until October to see his he can stand on top of the Motegi podium again.
Due to the recent Icelandic volcano eruptions and the resulting ash cloud over Europe, which is wreaking havoc on flights, the Japanese Grand Prix that was scheduled for this weekend, April 23-25, has been cancelled and rescheduled.
The announcement was made by the FIM today, stating:
The recent volcano eruption in Iceland has resulted in an ash cloud cover infiltration. Air traffic space over Europe has stopped all international travel in and out of Europe.
This case of ‘force majeure’ has obliged the Grand Prix Permanent Bureau composed of the FIM President Vito Ippolito and Dorna C.E.O. Carmelo Ezpeleta, with the agreement of the Grand Prix Promoter, Mobilityland Corporation, to postpone the Grand Prix of Japan planned on 25 April 2010.
The Grand Prix Permanent Bureau proposed equally to the FIM to reschedule the Grand Prix of Japan on October 3, 2010.
No word yet if the World Superbike round this weekend in Assen, Holland will run as scheduled or be postponed as well.
