Valentino Rossi to Test Ride in Misano Today

Rossi fastest at Sepang on Day one of preseason test.
Apparently sitting around watching Jorge Lorenzo dominating MotoGP isn't boding too well with defending World Champion Valentino Rossi. 'The Doctor' is getting back on a race bike today a little over a month since breaking his leg in a practice session at Mugello.
He may be down, but never count him out. Defending MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi, who broke his leg Saturday, June 5 during a practice session at Mugello, made the surprising announcement that he will ride a Yamaha YZF-R1 at a private test in Misano, Italy this afternoon. Rossi underwent two operations to repair a broken tibia and has been getting plenty of rest and rehabilitation since. Still, Dr. Roberto Buzzi, one of the physicians who operated on Rossi, placed his recovery time at six months. It’s only been one month since the accident and Rossi is already getting back on a bike.

Rossi had been the ‘Ironman’ of MotoGP before the accident. It was the first time in his 14-year GP career that he has missed multiple races because of injury. But his recovery period apparently is ahead of schedule as Rossi has “decided to proceed with the test ride today in order to better understand his current physical condition.” The test will help Rossi and his medical team plan the next stage of his rehabilitation program and hopefully expedite his return to racing.

Rossi will be riding a YZF-R1 World Superbike motorcycle provided by the Yamaha World Superbike Team. Results of the test and Rossi’s condition will be released later this afternoon.

Since his injury, Rossi’s Fiat Yamaha teammate, Jorge Lorenzo, has been dominant, winning the last three consecutive GP races while opening up a 52-point lead in the championship point standings. Rossi has been temporarily replaced by Yamaha test rider Wataru Yoshikawa.
