RedShift
After more testing and analysis BRD Motorcycles is moving forward with its RedShift electric design by taking pre-orders.
BRD Motorcycles is continuing to make waves in the electric market. In August the San Francisco-based company released details of the RedShift - a bike it claims will challenge gas-powered equivalents (read more in the BRD RedShift Motorcycle First Look). While specifics are rather sparse, some of the highlights of the motorcycle include a 5.2 kWh electric motor capable of 40 hp at the rear wheel. After further testing, BRD recently announced it has moved forward and will begin taking pre-orders for the RedShift immediately.

The RedShift is available in two forms – the RedShift MX motocrosser and the RedShift SM supermoto. With price tags of $15,495 and $14,995, respectively, the RedShift is one of the more expensive electric designs we’ve seen. BRD emphasizes that the RedShift will meet or exceed performance benchmarks of top-end 250cc four-stroke models – making its release highly anticipated for the coming year. An upgrade package for both models will also be available at an expected retail price of $2500, and will feature a stronger tubular subframe, upgraded low voltage electric system and integrated hard luggage. BRD will ship all models as street legal designs in order to ensure they’re eligible for state and federal EV incentives. Race plastics will also be available for purchase if owners wish to remove lighting and make the bike suitable for the dirt.

BRD is claiming to meet delivery demands by late 2012. Pre-orders for the RedShift are currently being accepted at: www.faster-faster.com/bikes. The first 100 pre-orders require a $100 fully refundable deposit, with all subsequent orders requiring a $200 deposit.
