Roehr Motorcycles first announced its intentions to go electric back in January (
Roehr Motorcycles Goes Electric), but now the Gurnee, Illinois-based company has revealed more details on the proposed rides. Dubbed the eRoehr, the electric lineup comes in three configurations, the eSuperSport and the eSuperBike, with the latter also available in RR trim as a turnkey electric racer. Roehr has also divulged a 135 mph top speed performance from the SuperBike, as well as the new models’ asking prices.
eSuperBike
Sourcing twin AC induction motors the eSuperbike claims 96 horsepower with a top speed of 135 mph. All three eRoehrs get their juice from lithium-iron-phosphate batteries controlled by the firm’s proprietary battery management system, with the eRoehrs also making use of regenerative braking technology. The larger machines’ batteries sport a 7.7 kWh capacity, which equates to range claims of “100 miles (urban cycle)” and “75 miles (combined cycle)”. Roehr’s PR announcement is careful to note that “actual range will vary depending on speed, load and terrain conditions.”
Weighing in at a claimed 500 lbs, the bike’s chassis comprises a twin-spar frame, with 41mm inverted fork with Ohlins single rear shock suspension. Brakes are dual 300mm rotors pinched by four-piston Brembo calipers. The eSuperBike rings in at $27,595.
eSuperBike RR
Riders can purchase a turn-key electric racer with the RR version, which costs $34,495. That extra $6900 gets a 43mm Ohlins fork up front, with radial-mount four-piston Brembo stoppers grabbing larger 320mm rotors. Lighter wheels fit different sized tires as well. The whole point is to deliver a ready-to-race machine in the TTXGP and e-Power racing series, although the RR remains a street legal ride.
eSuperSport
The SS version of the eRoehr lineup makes use of just one AC induction motor, the claimed power halfed from the SuperBike to 48 hp. Promised Top speed still reaches 100 mph, with the batteries storing up 5.8 kWh of power, good for a claimed 80-mile range “urban cycle” and 60 miles “combined cycle”.
Chassis stats and steering geometry are virtually identical to the larger bike, with 41mm fork and single rear shock and 56-inch wheelbase with 24-degree rake and 89mm trail. Notable changes are the dual two-piston caliper brakes up front, not as notable, however, as the 395-lb weight, a full 105 less than the eSuperBike.
Riders can get the new electric rides through three locations: factory direct form Roehr, or two Los Angeles locations – Hollywood Electrics and Ethical Approach Inc. A lag time of six weeks is promised by Roehr for placed orders, which require a $2000 refundable deposit, with the bikes available on a “first-come first serve basis.”
News of the eRoehr models comes on the heels of the unveiled Brammo Empulse, as well as the announcement from Zero Motorcycles that it will participate in the upcoming e-Power races at Laguna Seca.
