’s Mud Lite tires were designed with four major goals in mind, and it succeeded across the board. First, the tread was designed to perform in deep, sticky mud and hard, crusty snow. The deep-lugged tread wraps across the top of the tire and around the side and works much like paddles to propel the ATV through the deepest muck and snow banks. The side tread works against furrows providing even more traction as the tire digs.
Second, the tire was designed to be lighter than the typical mud and snow tire. The lighter weight means that less power is required to turn the tire. That translates to less power loss, and that means one thing - you go faster. But a lighter tire has less wear and tear on the entire drivetrain, as well as easier braking and longer CV life. Lighter weight also results in a better working suspension and therefore a better handling ATV.
That brings us to the third goal, a better handling tire. Light weight helps, but so does the unique tread design. Although the tread is very aggressive and designed for moving a lot of mud and snow, it’s also designed in a more lateral direction. This gives the tire a smoother ride with less chop than you would get in a typical mud tire as each row of lugs hit the ground. The lateral tread also helps the tire turn better and stay more stable – even when on regular terrain like hard-packed trails. Working well on regular trails was ITP’s fourth objective. Combine the light weight, the lateral tread design, and a 6-ply carcass that uses the same rubber compound as the legendary 589
and you get a mud and snow tire that works well out on the trails. Another advantage of the 589 carcass and the lateral tread design is a longer-lasting tire than you’d expect from an aggressive soft-terrain tire.
A lateral design allows for normal trail use while still providing excellent grip in deep snow.
Perhaps one of the very best mud and snow tires on the market, the bias-ply construction helps to make the tire both lighter and less expensive. So, not only does the Mud Lite work great, but it’s priced right. But remember, any mud and snow tire with an aggressive tread like the Mud Lite will wear faster, ride rougher, and tear up the trails more than a trail-specific tire. So it’s important to choose a tire that works best for the conditions that you ride in the most, not the tire that looks the best on your ATV.
There are two Mud Lite tires available - the standard Mud Lite with a 7/8th-inch-deep tread and the larger, more aggressive XL that has both a taller overall profile and even deeper 1.3-inch lugs.
