Tires are more than just a big investment; they are an important part of improving the performance of your ATV or UTV. Before you make an ATV tire purchase you must typically decide what you want your new set of tires to do. Do you want them to have great performance or be long-wearing? Do you want them to handle great in mud and snow or steer accurately on dirt trails? Do you want them to ride smoothly or have ultimate traction?

The Carlisle ACT may be the tire that will make all these decisions easier. The ACT is an aggressive tread radial tire designed to perform exceptionally in every type of trail condition that you might encounter, including the more extreme conditions like mud, snow, and ice. But even though the tread design is aggressive enough to handle those extreme conditions, the linear pattern will also help to keep the ACT steering accurately on the more open and hard-packed trails you ride on most of the time. This all-conditions radial tire was designed specifically for the new class of big-bore ATVs and even comes as standard equipment on some Can-Am ATVs like the Outlander Max XT. Because of the Carlisle ACT’s reputation for high performance, durability, and traction, and especially its strong sidewall and aggressive lugs, Polaris commissioned Carlisle to design them their own version of the ACT called the PXT for their line of big-bore Sportsman ATVs.

We’ve put a lot of miles on the Carlisle ACTs on a bunch of different ATVs. We used them for exploring all types of trails from the wide-open and smooth to the rough and difficult, and we have never experienced any problems. We found that the ACT’s are aggressive enough to tear through the tough trails, but not so aggressive as to tear up the smoother trails. We recently used the ACTs on some incredible winter trails and were amazed at how well they plowed through the snow. In fact, we found they had the traction to actually push the ATV though snow much deeper than the ATV had the ground clearance to cross, thus actually making the front bumper work as a snowplow!

We think that the Carlisle ACTs are one of the best all-purpose radial tires you can buy. Great performance and handling, incredible traction in all conditions, and a smooth ride on the hard-pack trails. And although your tire mileage will obviously vary greatly based on your machine and where and how you ride most of the time, we found the wear to be better than the other performance tires and about half of what you can expect from those heavier, lower performing hard-compound tires.
