Chad Reed to Start Own Honda Team

Monday, November 8, 2010
Reed threw a huge whip at the end of the second moto and took both wins in the first round of the Super-X series.
Reed has found success with a privateer Honda already.
A story in The Daily Telegraph, an Australian daily newspaper, broke news that Chad Reed will start his own team for the AMA Supercross series using a 2011 Honda CRF450R. The paper also claims it will be a “Frankenstein-style” bike (Chad Reed = Rick Melon?) and the reason behind Reed’s decision is to escape from the American racing tyrants. Developing his own team with the support of Australian companies should allow him the freedom to race under his own terms.

As for the bike, it would seem likely that he will race something similar to the Vodafone/Pro Circuit-backed Honda which he used to win the opening round of his Super-X series (2010 Super-X Newcastle Results). After Twitter pictures and rumors of testing with Yamaha and Lucas Oil/TLD Honda, Reed seems to have settled with a red machine of his own variety. He was quoted as saying:

"The Honda is the one that I have found suits me but I am in a position where I can use parts from anywhere. My weapon of choice is a Honda but I can get bits from anywhere and I am not getting any manufacturer's help."

Competing and following motocross all my life it's pretty obvious that Chad Reed is without doubt a proven superb rider....He is not a multi winning champion yet he had won both in and outdoor titles which is an amazing achievement....Americam racing has always been good if not slightly better than our european racing and i think he is just trying to stay with the elite racing and riders to achieve his goals....Come on boys leave him alone

Sam. In my spare time I race bikes and I'm more of a supporter of the Mat Mladin, Mick Doohan or Wayne Rainy type of racer (let their riding do the talking). By Chad starting his own team that will be competitive against the major manufacture teams, riders wanting to race a bike with a chance of winning the championship will have more choices.
sam -rat who??  November 15, 2010 07:21 PM
so rat you like reed or are you a history teacher in your spare time??? riders a better deal what are you talking about??? I thought they said honda not husky would be his new team!!REED needs to be done.........

Tim B Before flapping your gums, try learning your own countries history. Australia was colonized partly because England could no longer send convicts to their former American colony (USA). As for Reed's new team, it's all about giving the riders a better deal by providing competition to the major manufactures teams.

Was there ever a sponsor that Reed did not make a fool out of???
Tim B -Chad Sucks  November 9, 2010 07:22 AM
Chad "Second Place" Reed can go back to his own country if he doesn't like us American "tyrants". It's a shame our companies who sponsor his ride expect him to actually do his job and win. Go back to the land of thieves and convicts, Reed.
sam -shady reedy  November 8, 2010 08:00 PM
He is just makeing himself retire. when he burns all the bridges he will move on!! second place is the best he will ever be!!!!!!!!!!
Melon Man -Not as cool as Bubba  November 8, 2010 07:34 PM
He needs a TV show like Bubba to be really cool. Without a TV show he will never make it to the next level.
kevin -hahaha  November 8, 2010 02:56 PM
"Arguably the greatest Supercross rider in history, Reed was being hard-balled by the sport's manufacturers after a difficult year."

kevin -and ktm...  November 8, 2010 02:51 PM
and ktm
kevin -and he'll still finish in 3rd or 4th in supercross  November 8, 2010 02:50 PM
American racing tyrants? I'd be interested to know who he is referring to. He's raced on every team out there except Honda (and maybe for them in the past, I don't recall). Is he saying every team has acted like a tyrant? Sounds like it might be his attitude that is the problem. Meh, whatever, some people are meant to be self-employeed...or unemployeed.
