Reed has found success with a privateer Honda already.
A story in
The Daily Telegraph, an Australian daily newspaper, broke news that Chad Reed will start his own team for the AMA Supercross series using a
2011 Honda CRF450R. The paper also claims it will be a “Frankenstein-style” bike (Chad Reed = Rick Melon?) and the reason behind Reed’s decision is to escape from the American racing tyrants. Developing his own team with the support of Australian companies should allow him the freedom to race under his own terms.
As for the bike, it would seem likely that he will race something similar to the Vodafone/Pro Circuit-backed Honda which he used to win the opening round of his Super-X series (
2010 Super-X Newcastle Results). After Twitter pictures and rumors of testing with
Yamaha and Lucas Oil/TLD Honda, Reed seems to have settled with a red machine of his own variety. He was quoted as saying:
"The Honda is the one that I have found suits me but I am in a position where I can use parts from anywhere. My weapon of choice is a
Honda but I can get bits from anywhere and I am not getting any manufacturer's help."
