Rockstar Makita Suzuki SX Team Preview

Monday, January 3, 2011
Ryan Dungey
Suzuki's Ryan Dungey will have a difficult season ahead of him as multiple riders will attempt to steel his crown in 2011.
The Rockstar Makita Suzuki team stands as one of the most powerful squads with the 2011 Supercross circuit fast approaching Anaheim. The reason is 2010 AMA Supercross and Motocross champion Ryan Dungey. The reigning champ is joined by Australian Brett Metcalfe, who took third in the 2010 East Coast Lites division and second overall in the AMA Motocross series. To top things off, the Rockstar Makita Suzuki team will be given a helping hand by new Team Manager, Mike Webb, and advisor Ricky Carmichael.

"2011 should really be a great season, one the fans can really get into,” said Dungey. “I think there are six or seven guys who have won a race and are still able to win on any given night. Our team has had a really good off-season. We sort-of just carried the momentum in from last season and just went back to work. The new Suzuki RM-Z450 is pretty-much ready to go out of the box, but we've also built a great team around it. Yoshimura, Rockstar and Makita are all back and the atmosphere in the shop is really strong. Mike Webb has been great to work with and 'Goose' is back, so all the pieces seem to be falling into place. We have all done our work and now we will all see what takes place when the gate drops at Anaheim."

Dungey will perhaps face the most difficult season of his career in 2011. The 21-year-old will have the task of defending the title from a pack of eager riders nipping at his rear wheel, and never before has Dungey faced competition from so many different corners. Regardless, Dungey feels confident with his team’s preparations and will be looking to strike first blood in the opening round at Anaheim.

Brett Metcalfe
Newcomer Brett Metcalfe will move up to the 450 class in Supercross aboard Suzuki's RM-Z450.
Metcalfe will also be on the prowl as he debuts in the 450 class for 2011. The Aussie showed tremendous poise and consistency on the bigger machine during the outdoor season, and so far has adapted well to the Suzuki RM-Z450.

“I'm really looking forward to A1," said Metcalfe. "It's very exciting for me, as it is the first race with the Rockstar Makita Suzuki team and on my new Suzuki RM-Z450. It's also my first season in the SX class and that adds a bit to the equation, although I'm very comfortable on the bike and whether it's a 250 or 450, I'm just into racing. I like to race and that's where I hope to show my strength. The team and sponsors have been great and we've all put a lot of effort into testing and training. It will be good to see how that all pays off. It will be a long season, but Anaheim 1 is always a good test."
