2010 Loretta Lynn Amateur MX - Friday

Saturday, August 7, 2010
Friday morning’s activities at the Loretta Lynn Ranch got off to a late start when rain stayed in the area until 7 a.m., partially flooding the track and requiring a two-hour delay in the schedule. After some track maintenance repaired some of Mother Nature’s damage, riders put it all on the line with several classes competing for final moto wins. Here’s a quick look at what went down in the fourth day at Loretta Lynn’s.

Vet 35 Plus Moto 3

In the start of the final moto for the Vet 35 Plus class Suzuki rider Dan Moore used an outside gate pick to get a great start. Shortly after the #86 bike of Kevin Walker took over the lead with Keith Johnson hot on his heels and looking for his third straight victory in a row. Meanwhile, Moore settled into third behind the two frontrunners, just waiting to catch any mistake made by Johnson.

In the end Walker was able to pull ahead of the pack to take the moto win ahead of Johnson and Moore. As a result Walker finished second overall in the division with his score of 2-2-1. After two flawless motos earlier this week and a second-place finish to Walker on Friday, Johnson took the overall win aboard his Kawasaki. Rounding out the top-three overall finishers for the week in third-place was Dan Moore.

450 A/Pro Sport Moto 3
Lowell Spangler took the motorcycle-superstore.com holeshot. He was running second in the series and looking to lay down a solid third moto for the overall win. But Gannon Audette lurked close behind in second, which was all the Suzuki rider needed to win the title. Proving both his speed and determination, Audette swung around Spangler to take the lead while Bryce Vallee advanced into second ahead of Spangler and Honda rider Clark Stiles.

Taking the overall win by way of a three moto sweep was Audette, followed Spangler who took fourth in Moto 3 after dropping some positions. Earning second in the moto behind Audette and third overall was Vallee. Meanwhile, Robbie Reynard led an aggressive charge through the field to secure sixth-place in Moto 3 and fourth overall for the week. Stiles capped off the top-five in fifth overall for the 450 A/Pro Sport division.

Junior 25 Plus Moto 3
Nicholas Vaughn pocketed the $100 motorcycle-superstore.com gift certificate for taking the holeshot and gaining an advantage over Robbie Reynard at the start of Moto 3. James Evans and Clark Stiles followed closely, but after leading for only a few short laps Vaughn had a flat tire that pushed him to the back of the field, allowing Evans to move into the lead. But Evans would also give up his lead by going down in a turn, and Stiles would take his chance in the lead with Reynard quickly advancing through the field behind him.

Under pressure from Reynard the leader crashed-out, giving the Yamaha rider a perfect score and his seventh national championship in his first return to LL racing since 1992. In second-place was Stiles, who finished second overall despite his accident in the final moto with a solid score of 4-3-2. In the final podium position for the Junior 25 Plus class was Evans with a 2-4-3 result.

Schoolboy 1 (12-16) B/C Moto 3
Since getting the win in the first moto Mitchell Oldenburg has had a tough week, and at the start of the third moto it appeared his luck was changing after he secured the holeshot and led out of the first turn. Oldenburg continued to struggle, however, and by the end of the first lap he had dropped back to sixth. Taking over the lead was winner of Moto 2, Colt Nichols, followed by Luke Renzland and Joey Savatgy.

While leading Nichols got caught-up in a pack of downed riders, allowing Renzland to scrape by and take the moto and overall win with a score of 4-2-1. Savatgy finished second in the third moto, but his DNF in Moto 2 dropped him down to 15th overall in the series. Despite falling and taking fourth in the final moto, Nichols took second overall in the Schoolboy (12-16) division. Yamaha rider Claudio Leocata wrapped-up the top-three finishers in third with an overall score of 6-4-3.
