Dean Wilson went wire-to-wire on his Monster Pro Circuit Kawasaki to claim the opening victory in Moto 1 at Budds Creek. The Scottsman entered the Maryland race just two points out of the championship lead. His opening victory gave him a one-point advantage over teammate and Moto 1 runner-up, Tyla Rattray heading into the final race of the day.

Geico Powersports Honda’s Eli Tomac was actually the fastest in the first race, posting a 2:06.2 on Lap 5. It wasn’t enough to get him into the lead, however, and the CRF250R pilot was only able to improve one position from his sixth-place start. Kyle Cunningham had a long scrap with Darryn Durham over fourth place while simultaneously trying to break up a PC Kawi podium sweep. The DNA Shred Stix Star Racing Yamaha rider ultimately took the spot when Durham crashed out on Lap 12, but Broc Tickle claimed third to make it an all-green rostrum.

Surprisingly absent from the front-runners was the hard-charging Blake Baggett who finished seventh. Nico Izzi came from off the pace to land in eighth which would ultimately carry him to a top-10 finish overall.

Moto 2 saw another wire-to-wire performance, this time by the South African. Rattray regained his championship lead with the victory ahead of a pair of Hondas. Justin Barcia beat his teammate, Tomac, for the remaining podium spots.

"I think it's important in a championship to be up front," said Rattray. "It's important to be on podium as much as you can, and that's what I've done so far. I just want to get big points at each round and stay consistent. Having such strong competitors makes you dig deeper, and I just want it really bad."

Tyla Rattray did what he had to by winning the overall victory at Budds Creek. He cleared another two points on championship rival and teammate Dean Wilson.

Gannon Audette and Gareth Swanepoel showed that the Star Racing Yamahas are running well by rounding the first circuit in second and fourth place, respectively. Audette eventually faded to 11th and left the top spots for the regular crew of speedsters. Swanepoel, the FIM transplant, hung tough and didn’t give up his position. His 9-4 on the day was good enough for sixth overall.

After breaking out of his slump in Moto 1, defending SX Lites champion Tickle fell right back in with a dismal ninth place. Fortunately his Monster PC Kawasaki teammates were picking up the slack. Wilson was third (1-3-2) and Baggett recorded another seventh (7-7-7).

Malcolm Stewart was sixth which gave him 11th overall for the Arma Energy Suzuki City team.
