Windham Covers for Canard at Factory Honda

Thursday, April 28, 2011
Kevin Windham finished seventh in Moto 1 and followed that up with a fifth in Moto 2. K-Dub ended up in the top five for the day.
Windham made a few appearances in the 2010 Outdoors, shown here at Southwick. He will start the 2011 season with the factory Honda team.
Geico Powersports Honda’s top 450 rider, Kevin Windham, will switch to the factory Honda team for the opening rounds of the 2011 AMA Motocross Championship while Trey Canard and Josh Grant continue to make their recoveries. Honda and Windham have committed to “the first few” races.

“The outdoor Nationals are something special,” said Windham. “The speed is not something you find in Supercross, and I’m pumped to be able to race for American Honda. The bike is good and I’m ready. We’ll just have to see what happens.”

How long he continues with the team depends on Canard and Grant’s progress and Windham’s results. Regardless of when the two contracted stars make their return, it’s doubtful that Honda will give K-Dub the boot if he’s running in the top of the order. Racing begins on May 21 with the season opener at Hangtown where Windham will share the tent with Honda's sole factory WMA racer, Ashley Fiolek.

Josh Grant:
“Since undergoing knee surgery a few months back, I’ve been receiving therapy on my knee on a daily basis. I’ve worked intensely with my doctor and healed fast. I’m really looking forward to the upcoming Motocross season and excited to rejoin the American Honda Racing team as soon as possible.”

Trey Canard:
“Getting hurt so late in the Supercross season was a bitter pill to swallow. Especially since I was among the top contenders for the Supercross title. However, I’m doing what I need to do in order to make a full recovery and return to racing early in the Motocross Championship.”
