Travis Wyman (#24) claimed the win in the final Supersport race at Road America ahead of Dustin Dominguez.
Travis Wyman won Sunday’s Motorcycle-Superstore.com AMA Supersport race in dramatic fashion in a race that saw numerous lead changes as well as crashes by some of the classes’ top racers. Finishing in second place was Dustin Dominguez aboard a Latus Motors-prepped Triumph Daytona 675R motorcycle while Tomas Puerta finished third.

“I knew it was going to be a tough race,” says Puerta who has finished on the podium almost every weekend this year. “I have to really work and brake harder than everybody. With four or five laps to go the rear started spinning a lot. So I didn’t want to crash. It wasn’t possible to catch them today.”

Roadracingworld.com’s Benny Solis and LTD Racing’s David Gaviria were the first riders to hit the pavement when they came together in Turn 13/14 section of the track. Solis was able to remount his motorcycle and rejoin the race albeit in last position. He would end up finishing 16th. Meanwhile up front Suzuki Scoop’s Elena Myers, James Ripsoli, and Corey Alexander and all battled it out taking turns at the front.

With only a few laps to go Alexander’s Dunlop front tire folded over on the brakes during corner entry and collected Rispoli’s Suzuki. This allowed Myers to getaway a little bit and for a lap or two it looked like she might take the win until she made a mistake on the following lap and was pushed back into fourth position. By then Ricky Parker joined the battle for a top-five position eventually passing Myers until he made a mistake and had to run off in the dirt giving her back the position.

In the AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com Supersport division LTD Yamahas Tomas Puerta was fastest ahead of James Rispoli and Travis Wyman.
LTD Yamaha's Tomas Puerta finished on the podium despite struggling with braking in Race 2.
“This is our first weekend riding the triumph,” said Dominguez. “We came to this race to test see what we needed to work on. The triumph it handles so phenomenal. I’m able to go really deep into corners. I had a lot of confidence on the brakes and going into corners. It’s a good bike right out of the box.”
