Yamaha announced its official road racing team structure for the 2011 AMA Superbike season. Reigning Superbike champ Josh Hayes will once again be competing on Yamaha’s cross plane-equipped YZF-R1 as tested in the Hayes Yamaha YZF-R1 Superbike Review. Josh Herrin will also be returning to the team aboard the Yamaha YZF-R6 in the Daytona Sportbike class. The Graves Motorsports Yamaha team has also secured new sponsorship from Monster Energy.

“Creating the Monster Energy Graves Motorsports Yamaha team connects our brand with one of the most respected racing programs and two of the best riders in the country,” said Alex Dunstan, Motorsports Manager for Monster Energy. “Having the American Superbike No. 1 plate represent the No. 1 energy drink in the U.S. is a natural fit for our company and we look forward to kicking off the season at Daytona!”

The Pat Clark Motorsports team will continue to compete on Yamahas with new title sponsorship from Yamaha Extended Service, the extended warranty arm of Yamaha Motor Corporation. Chris Clark will ride a Graves Motorsports tuned R1 in the Superbike class while Tommy Aquino will pilot a R6 in the Daytona Sportbike class.

Yamaha will also be supporting the LTD Racing Team with riders Huntley Nash and Thomas Puerta competing in the Daytona Sportbike class and David Gaviria mixing it up in the Supersport class. Melissa Paris will also be a part of the Daytona Sportbike class with the HT Moto Racing Team. All riders will be competing aboard R6s.

The season begins at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida on March 10 – 12. Make sure to visit Motorcyle-USA.com for race results and photos from the weekend.

Josh is the best rider and likely to repeat..this year would have been interesting only if EBOZ was riding the full schedule..

The bike looks good enough but how will it be on the track against the Suzukis and the s1000rr of Pegram!? Josh will be aiming to keep the #1 plate on his bike but what about the threat of Young/Cardenas... I hope all the upgrades to this dated model R1 will be enough for Josh to get the praise he deserves after all these years of AMA Racing by taking the 2011 title!
