Josh Herrin - Team Graves Yamaha
The AMA has announced a one-event suspension and fine for Josh Herrin (8) and Graves Yamaha for actions during the last-lap crash in the Daytona 200.
The AMA has levied a stiff penalty to Daytona SportBike competitor Josh Herrin. The Graves Yamaha rider has been suspended for the upcoming Round 2 at Infineon Raceway, with team assessed a $7500 fine. The potentially championship-killing penalty was issued in response to Herrin’s actions in the final-lap dash to the checkered flag at the Daytona 200 season opener. Herrin came into contact with M4 Suzuki’s Dane Westby, brushing the latter’s brake lever which caused a high-speed crash that took out a following rider, Taylor Knapp. The incident brought out the red flag. – MCUSA Ed

Both rider and team were notified of the above details in advance of this release, and the penalties do not prevent them from taking part in the May 2-3 official AMA Pro test at Miller Motorsports Park.

Great....now they just need to go back and do the same to Aslick for his NASCAR moves in Birmingham last year. He was more interested in trying to kill Herrin than competing to win the championship. He was purposefully trying to knock Herrin down and out while Cardenas stole the bank. What an idiot and completely hypocritical of the AMA. Herrin wasn't even concerned with Westby as they were behind him. AND the red flag should have resulted in Herrin winning anyway since the flag should have resulted in the previous lap being recognized as the last lap.

I'm with Herrin on this one. You may disagree but at least we are interested in bike racing. We need more fans.

Glad to see AMA step up on this one. Definitely avoidable wreck and destruction of two motorcycles. Herin should have known better after the first bit of contact NOT to steer right back into him then push his elbow into his brake lever. Not by accident at all.

I think spyder44 might be right. I'm not 100% sure Herrin did anything on purpose. With a group of bikes that close screaming at full speed; he might not have even known Westby was right next to him when he threw out his elbow. Herrin has been agressive in the past, I'm just not sure on this one.

This is BS! Watching the vid Herrin was ahead of Westby by a 1/4 length. This seems to me more a freak accident then cheating..

I never thought I'd say this: well done AMA/DMG. Herrin deserved this penalty, he could of killed Westby or Knapp.
