Today I did a total of 25 laps on the 1198 Superbike which is sort of a historic motorcycle for Ducati: beautiful and fast. I liked it! - Valentino Rossi
Valentino Rossi takes to the track to test the strength of his shoulder on Ducati's 1198 superbike before testing the Desmosedici.Rossi turned the first laps aboard the 1198 to test the status of his shoulder which though recovering nicely is still quite painful just a few days ahead of the first test in Malaysia with the Desmosedici GP11.
Seventy-three days after an operation to his right shoulder, Valentino Rossi returned to the track at Misano Adriatico aboard a Ducati 1198 Superbike. On November 14 at Cattolica’s Cervesi hospital, the Italian had undergone surgery on the supraspinatus tendon and the long head of biceps tendon, as well as cartilage in the Glenoid Labrum.

The day was sunny but chilly, with a maximum air temperature of 10º Centigrade (50º Fahrenheit) and a maximum track temperature of 15º C (59º F). Valentino arrived at the circuit at around 1:20 and met a team of Ducati technicians that included his own crew’s two engineers, Matteo Flamigni and Gabriele Conti, as well as Ducati Marlboro Team Manager Vittoriano Guareschi. A half-hour later, he turned the first laps aboard the 1198 to test the status of his shoulder which, though recovering nicely, is still quite painful, just a few days ahead of the first test in Malaysia with the Desmosedici GP11.

“First of all, thanks to Filippo (Preziosi) and to Ducati, who organized this test,” said Valentino Rossi. “Misano Circuit let us use the track on a day when Mattia (Pasini) was planning to ride in order to confirm his own condition. The track more or less confirmed what we expected: the shoulder is painful—especially under braking, when the front area hurts, where they stitched the tendon. Movement is stable enough, and we’re also doing not so bad with endurance, but apart from that, it hurts a lot and isn’t very strong. Let’s hope it gets a little better in these next few days before the test in Malaysia. Once we’re there, we’ll work with the riding position in an effort to make the most of the situation and collect important information with the Desmosedici, even though I’m not in top form. Today I did a total of 25 laps on the 1198 Superbike, which is sort of a ‘historic’ motorcycle for Ducati: beautiful and fast. I liked it!”

I hope Rossi will be all right. I kind grew fond of him like most of us did. Does anybody thinks that the Ducati's two cylinder engine is a little light where a 4 cylinder is heavier? Imagine a boat. A boat needs much weight at the bottom keeping it from turning over. Anybody sees this connection or is it just only me?

GhostRider, I like your take on the test. That would be the race of the decade to see. VR vs. Max, THE REMATCH. I would almost be able to forgive Ducati fo pulling out of WSBK, almost.

Rossi is gauging his fitness level of his shoulder and he is doing a trial run on the 1098 as well! Rossi has made it known that he wants to ride in WSB as a wild-card! So with Ducati, he can do this! Ducati doesn't have a factory team there anyway which will suit everyone perfectly! Imagine how pissed Max will be to see Rossi on track with him again!? If Rossi rides as a wild-card in any of the italian rounds, the Fans are going to go bananas! It will be the show of all shows that weekend! Go Rossi!

Hey, aren't you also an internet commentator? You are correct that he is testing for Ducati, not only that, he has a contract with them and will also race a Ducati.

Who cares? Oh, internet commentators... Point is Rossi is testing for Ducati!!!
Jaimeb -sure..  January 26, 2011 03:20 PM
Then he can test his shoulder without necessarily riding a bike...don't you think...or, "Rossi tests shoulder in Misano on a Ducati 1198"...
Never mind.
Aaron -duh...  January 26, 2011 03:12 PM
he's testing his shoulder, not the bike...
Jaimeb -please splain  January 26, 2011 03:08 PM
