Pramac Ducati Riders on the Mend

Saturday, April 9, 2011
As the 2011 MotoGP paddock breaks for a few weeks before the next round in Portugal, the Pramac Ducati team of Randy de Puniet and Loris Capirossi is racing to get back to full fitness.

De Puniet recently underwent surgery to remove the screw which was inserted into his left knee last year after the Frenchman’s horrific highside at the Sachsenring circuit. Overall, the operation went smoothly and De Puniet is now utilizing his time off to recover before the upcoming race in Estoril on May 1st.

"I'm fine,” said De Puniet. “Though, now that the local anesthesia has lost its effect I feel a bit 'of pain. One chapter closes, now without this screw I hope to improve my performance on track. In these days I hope to reach my physical condition in view of the race in Estoril."

Capirossi is also capitalizing on the time off to seek medical help for the shoulder which has been troubling him. The Italian had surgery in between the season opener at Qatar and the second round at Jerez to fix a nerve problem, but the issue has yet to be fully fixed. Recent tests have shown inflammation of his tendon and muscle. The 38-year-old will now begin an intense rehabilitation process to reduce the inflammation prior to the next round.

“The checkups I went through were positive,” said Capirossi. “Yesterday I had the artroscan, which showed that tendon and muscle have reported an injury. Fortunately, there is nothing broken. Now I will work hard, twice a day, trying to get off the inflammation. I want to heal at all costs, for Estoril I hope to reach at least 80-85% of physical condition.”
