Zero Motorcycles has announced that it will offer an added incentive for riders in the market to buy a 2012 model year electric bike. Starting January 1, 2013 and running until March 31, 2013, Zero’s “Cash for Carbon” program offers customers a trade-in bonus of $2500 dollars when they make the switch from a combustion engine to electric. The bonus is in addition to whatever amount the dealer is willing to offer for the trade-in.

“Similar to the ‘cash for clunkers’ government promotion in 2009, Zero aims to entice traditional internal combustion engine motorcycle owners to make the switch to electric,” said Scot Harden, Vice President of Global Marketing for Zero Motorcycles in a recent Zero press release. “In offering a $2,500 trade in bonus for new customers, we expect this promotion to be a great sales tool for our nationwide dealer network.”

On top of the deal offered by Zero, the federal government may also help pad the cost of a new electric motorcycle through a 10-percent tax credit available as part of the American Taxpayer Relief Act.

Zero Motorcycles also offers financing, including a zero down payment, zero-percent interest for 12-months option as well as a 4.99-percent option, all based on approved credit.

If you want to take advantage of the “Cash for Carbon” program, you’ll need to present a voucher to the dealer which can be found at the Zero website.
