AMA Supercross Toronto Results 2012

Without Stewart Reed or Dungey to challenge theres nothing to stop Villopoto from title number two.
Number 1 gets win number 7 with Toronto Supercross success. Villopoto enjoys a comfortable points lead.
Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto claimed his 22nd win in AMA Supercross, and the seventh of 2012, with a victory at Toronto. The Washington native secured his stranglehold on the ’12 SX title, with a 79 point lead now in the series. Finishing on the podium alongside RV1 was Honda’s Justin Brayton and Kevin Windham.

Brayton grabbed the Nuclear Cowboyz holeshot when the gates dropped Saturday evening. The Muscle Milk Honda rider held the front until Villopoto managed to take the lead on Lap 2. JGR Yamaha's Davi Millsaps ran third in the opening laps.

Without the injured James Stewart, Ryan Dungey or Chad Reed to battle, Villopoto was unchallenged for the win. Brayton put on a fight, at least for a time, and Villopoto did bobble through the whoops early on, but there was no doubt of the winner in Toronto.

While the front two were certain, a battle ensued over the final podium. Villopoto’s teammate, Jake Weimer, looked assured of the final rostrum position, but a late lap mistake opened the door for Windham and Millsaps. Weimer jumped off track encountering a lapper and rejoined the race to finish fifth.

Villpoto’s win ensures a comfortable points lead over Dungey in the title chase. The only active rider within sight of RV at Toronto is Millsaps, who is 102 points back.

“Out of the first turn, it was just me and Brayton right off the bat,” said Villopoto. “I made some pretty big mistakes in the whoops. They were tough. We’ll go to Houston, where I think there’s a chance to wrap up the title. That’s the plan.”

With Ryan Dungey and Chad Reed out for the season and James Stewart so far behind on points this will a freebie for Ryan Villopoto. I'm disappointed that there won't be a chase for the title this year.
