Kevin Windham verified that his shoulder is dislocated as a result of the big crash at Houston last weekend. He will miss the remainder of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship. Kevin Windham (14) was battling with James Stewart (7) for the heat race win in Houston before a crash left him with a dislocated shoulder and other possible injuries.
"I've definitely got a dislocated shoulder so that ends my season right there," Windham said. He tweeted that his wrist is fractured as well. His left thumb is also injured, but doctors’ reports are inconsistent on whether it’s broken or not. Windham will continue to have it evaluated.
"I can't move my left thumb at all and my hip hurts. I'm not really sure what's going on with either of them at the moment. I'm basically hurting all over."
The crash came during the qualifying races inside Reliant Stadium. After a back-and-forth exchange throughout the early laps, Stewart pulled away slightly before the Geico Honda rider made a final surge to close the gap. In an attempt to scrub one of the triple jumps, Windham caught his right foot on the jump face and endoed. He was carried off the track in the Asterisk Medical Unit and did not race for the rest of the night.
Now that he has had time to evaluate the damage , the diagnosis puts K-Dub out for the rest of the year. Don’t hold your breath expecting to see the #14 bike during the 2012 Motocross Nationals, but he vows to return to racing, however.
"It's disappointing," Windham said. "I've been lucky at avoiding big get-offs like the one I had in Houston for the past several years. Staying healthy has been a big part of my career going this long. But even after this one, I'm not done. I'll be back for sure."
