Ryan Sipes took the win in SX Lites at Seattle.
Rockstar Valli/Star Racing Yamaha's Ryan Sipes finished first in the Seattle Supercross Lites West main event on Saturday.
Monster Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Dean Wilson took the holeshot opening the Monster Energy West Supercross Lites main event in Seattle, but wasn’t able to hold on for long. Star/Valli Racing Yamaha’s Ryan Sipes took the lead quickly and didn’t let go till he saw the checkered flag.

“I worked really hard to come back here and didn’t think I’d be able to,” said Sipes. “I tried not to push. I tried to conserve and flow. I didn’t go fast, but I didn’t go slow either. The first five races were so tough. I felt good, but I was pushing too hard. It just feels so good to come back from injury like this.”

Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin finished in second, over three seconds behind Sipes. Geico Honda’s Eli Tomac rounded out the podium, taking third and reclaiming the championship lead. Tomac was also dealing with more than the eight-race layoff as he injured his wrist at the last West Coast race in San Diego. The Geico Honda rider had to battle tooth and nail with Wilson, who entered Seattle with the a two point lead. The duo hammered at each other with Wilson looking like the bigger aggressor early on. Eventually Tomac got tired of it and collided heavily with the Kawasaki rider, sending him to the ground. Wilson would remount for seventh, but he may have injured his right shoulder in the accident.

“I wasn’t happy with my heat race, but it was go time in the main event,” said Tomac, who holds a four-point lead in the championship standings. “Dean (Wilson) put some block passes on me and I said, ‘let’s play.’ I got into him there, but I guess that’s racing. I was rusty in practice but I gave it my all tonight. When we made contact, my clutch was bent, so I was riding in third gear. I’m looking forward to Salt Lake City because it’s like a home race for me.”

Troy Lee Designs’ Cole Seely grabbed a fourth-place finish with Geico Honda’s Will Hahn scoring points in fifth.
