2014 Can-Am Maverick MAX 1000R First Look

Monday, June 3, 2013
Can-Am unveiled its 2014 model line-up this morning, including new and updated side x side models. The biggest news is undoubtedly the 2014 Can-Am Maverick MAX 1000R. This stretched variant of the Maverick is aimed at raising the performance and comfort levels in the four-seat class.

The MAX has the same 101 horsepower Rotax EFI V-Twin engine that powers the two-seater, making it the most powerful UTV capable of carrying four passengers. A drive-by-wire throttle system, dubbed Intelligent Throttle Control (iTC) meters the power, while a CVT transmission with a PBO belt puts the triple digit ponies to the ground. A larger hydraulic disc brake system is fitted to the front end of the Maverick MAX to deal with the added weight of the 29.5-inch longer wheelbase and carrying capacity.

The MAX is also available in an X rs DPS performance package. The 2014 Can-Am Maverick MAX 1000R X rs DPS (say that three times quick!) adds a new Tri-Mode Dynamic Power Steering that has variable assist dependent on vehicle speed and has three selectable modes (Hi, Med, Low). Additionally the X rs DPS gets FOX 2.5 Podium shocks fitted to double A-arm front and Trailing Torsional A-arm (TTA) rear suspension. Completely re-built and adjustable for preload, high- and low-speed compression and rebound, these premium FOX units are a first on a factory-built side x side. All DPS equipped Can-Am machines are outfitted with a Visco-Lok QE calibration that offers quicker engagement of the front differential. Twelve-inch aluminum beadlock wheels, a custom steering wheel and X-Package seat trim complete the X rs DPS higher-end styling cues.

Creature comforts in the Maverick MAX include stadium-style seating for excellent visibility for all passengers, tilt steering, an adjustable driver’s seat and cup holders. The X rs DPS model also gets an upgraded 3-D Analog/Digital gauge package over the standard LCD gauge on the standard model. An analog tach and speedo feature a 3-D background for enhanced visibility and are combined with an advanced digital information center.

Pricing and dealer availability are TBD at this time.
