James Stewart Out for Two More Weeks

Thursday, July 12, 2012
Stewart earned a 1-1 finish at Freestone in the 450 class.
Suzuki will be without James Stewart (shown) or Brett Metcalfe at Millville. Stewart's expected return will take place at Southwick.
James Stewart will not contest the Millville or Washougal rounds according to the Yoshimura Suzuki team. Stewart’s right wrist injury is still bothering him and the team has decided to allow more time for rehabilitation instead of rushing back to the Pro 450 Motocross Championship. The former multi-time champion won the opening two rounds before crashing at Thunder Valley and retreating to the sidelines. He returned at RedBud where he posted a 6-3-3 result; respectable by any margin, but in the process got a better feel for how his wrist will hold up under a pair of 30+2 motos.

Team Yoshimura Suzuki Manager, Mike Webb released this statement:

“At this point in time it doesn’t make sense to push it. From a safety standpoint, for both James and the other riders, we just don’t want to take the chance. The injury is a little more than we thought and will simply require a bit more rehab. The plan is to stay off the bike for a couple weeks and then ride and test and come back strong for Southwick.”

Southwick will be no cakewalk either. If there’s one track on the circuit that can be miserable to ride on, the sandy layout is definitely it. Stewart’s contract with Suzuki doesn’t actually start until the 2013 Supercross season, the outdoors being a chance for him to get accustomed to the bike, make some testing headway and get back to racing the Nationals for his own enjoyment. It’s probably a wise move to not rush anything with so little on the line.
