James Rispoli leads the Western SuperSport Division and took the win in Race 2 at Barber.
James Rispoli won Race 2 of AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport at Barber Motorsports Park.
Celtic Racing’s James Rispoli earned a hard fought victory in Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport Race 2. Riders Discount Vesrah Suzuki’s Jake Lewis came in second merely 0.038 behind. Yamaha’s Tomas Puerta rounded out the podium and RoadRace Factory’s Hayden Gillim followed close behind in fourth. The contest for podium position was heated through the entire race; at the checkers, the three riders behind Beaubier came in within one second of the lead.

Race 2 was hardly underway when Castrol Triumph’s Dustin Dominguez and Kneedragger.com’s Stefano Mesa crashed, forcing all riders to the pits after the red flag. Once returned, riders had less than a minute before a second red flag was thrown. Lewis held the lead for a period after the contest got underway, lost position and then Gillim took over until Rispoli finally made his move with four laps remaining. Puerta made a similar late race pass to secure a place on the rostrum.

"The red flags were pretty tough," said Rispoli, "every time we went back out it seemed like the tires got a little bit greasier. Us dirt trackers were really sliding it around and I think I was sliding around a little bit more than anybody else. It was crazy. It went all the way down to the wire. In the end we played our cards smart. I broke hard in the places I needed to, I defended where I needed to, and we got back up on top of the box."

Dominguez started in the number one position and held the lead briefly, before losing to Lewis. After crashing, the Triumph rider was well outside the top ten, as was Mesa, and battled through the pack to take sixth. Mesa similarly made his push after the second red flag and made it up to seventh. Both riders couldn't get past SuzukiScoop's Elena Myers who was stalwart in fifth for the majority of the race.

Rispoli and Lewis both earned points in their respective divisions, with Rispoli leading the West Division by  59 over Gillim and Lewis leading the East Division by 39 over Mesa. Dominguez is now just one point off third place in the East and Myers hold third in the West. The East division battle is much closer than the West, with the top five riders within 15 points of second place. Given Myers' continued inability to earn another podium and Rispoli's substantial lead over the remaining riders of the West division, Gillim is likely the only rider to have a chance of challenging the Suzuki ace for the lead.
